Name: Kayla Garfinkel
Sport: Girls Lacrosse
Grade: Senior
Team Record: 6-1
Recent Performance: 16-2 win over Demarest
Position: Defense
Coming into the season the girls lacrosse team had some high hopes, but the team seems to be living up to their own expectations.
"I expect us to have a pretty successful season as we've been doing pretty well so far," Garfinkel said.
Coach Melissa Velez praises Garfinkel's work ethic and attitude on the field, citing the effect of her play on the defensive end.
"Kayla is one of our Senior defenders and one of our hardest working players both in practice and in games," Velez said. "She brings a lot of energy to our defense and our team and has been willing to do whatever we need her to this season to be successful."
2020 Season Dismissed
Garfinkel expected the girls lacrosse team to have a "comeback season" in 2020, but Valley never got the chance to take the field after the season was cancelled due to COVID-19.
We had a pretty rough season [my sophomore year], but then we worked really hard at the end," Garfinkel said. "[During the] offseason I know all the girls worked really hard last year, so it was upsetting that last year's season got messed up."
Future Plans
As a Senior, Garfinkel is getting ready to go off to college, but she will only be pursuing lacrosse in a more relaxed environment, rather than competing against other schools.
"I'm going to University of South Carolina and majoring in business," Garfinkel said. "I'd like to continue club lacrosse, but [I'll] probably just [play lacrosse] as an intramural [sport]."
