Celebrating legacies and legends of EHS.

Near the East hallway on the main floor, there is a special spot reserved on Eaglecrest’s trademark red brick wall. This is a spot reserved for outstanding athletes, performers, and leaders, a spot one can only dream of being part of. This is a spot reserved for those accomplished enough to be inducted into our school’s Hall of Fame.

This year, four more plaques are being added to that wall. From Class of 2002 graduate Zak Edwards, who is inducted for his excellence in performing arts, to volleyball star Sheila Olachea Martinez (‘08) to Danielle Williams, inducted for track and field as part of the Class of 2012, and finally, to Elijah Ross, Class of 2015 graduate who sports both a basketball and football legacy. Olympic gold medalist Jordyn Poulter and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Sarah Wire were also set to be inducted this year, but as neither could make the ceremony, their inductions will be postponed. For those who were able to make it, it’s both an honor and incredibly nostalgic.

Elijah Ross ('15)

“I had Coach O, Coach Schmidt: those were my varsity head coaches of football and basketball. Sean O'Brien is one of my favorite teachers and just people in general, and all the security guys…I had Miss Laferrera for Home Ec,” said Ross. “Man, I was pretty close with everybody.”

As an older brother, Ross had a unique perspective on legacy. And as a younger brother, fellow inductee Zak Edwards saw the other side of that. Having an older sister who went through the arts program at Eaglecrest, Edwards got a glimpse into that world --and fell in love.

Zak Edwards ('02)

“Watching the Eaglecrest shows sort of informed what I wanted to do with my life,” said Edwards. “And then going to a place where they had the level of performance that they had is very, very rare for a high school, and it really just solidified that that was what I wanted to do with my life. It gave me great training and a start to be on the right path.”

Edwards found a passion on the stage, choosing a career in performing arts. Four years later, on the court, fellow inductee Sheila Martinez found a passion for volleyball --which she cultivates even still.

Sheila Olachea Martinez ('08)

“It kind of closes a chapter for Eaglecrest for me,” said Martinez. “It never crossed my mind to be one of the few selected students to join, but it’s everything. It’s a legacy that my kids will get to see, and that means the most to me.”

Just as Martinez led her team to a state championship in her senior year, fellow athlete and 2021 inductee Danielle Williams claimed first place at state for the triple jump her senior year, proving that hard work can take you far.

Danielle Williams ('12)

“Raptor Pride was taught heavily when I was there,” said Williams. “Being able to carry yourself with a certain amount of class and dignity…I feel like that has definitely stuck with me outside of high school and into my career.

Each and every inductee has their own story, their own --impressive-- accolades, and their own memories of high school. Yet each of them are connected by Eaglecrest, using it as a platform for greater things beyond high school. Whether they followed a passion, build up their academic and athletic prowess, or made life-long friends, they were all impacted by their high school. And Eaglecrest was likewise impacted by them.
