Vance Taylor Joins the South Forks Lions to Discuss the Mill
President and CEO, Vance Taylor recently addressed the South Forks Lions and provided an update on the North Dakota Mill. The ND Mill, located in Grand Forks is the only State owned mill in the United States. Mr. Taylor provided a great deal of information about the mill operations and finances. J & H Nunn Sports Foundation
Brian Nunn Founder of the Foundation Addresses Lions
Brian Nunn, CEO and Founder of the J & H Sports Foundation recently spoke at South Forks Lions meeting. Brian discussed numerous aspects of the foundation including the mission, those served and the process used to determine who the foundation helps. The stated mission is "It is our mission to provide equal athletic opportunities to youth in financial need of equipment and assistance in paying participation fees. It is through commitment to youth, the community and a love for athletics that we will inspire youth to share our passion and give an equal opportunity to all youth." This mission is pretty straight forward as Brian said they simply want to help young people, that might not have the opportunity to participate in activities because of a lack of equipment or monetary resources, actively participate with peers in activities available in the community. Brian discussed the process of completing an application and submitting it to the foundation board. Applications are reviewed and decisions made based on need and the availability of resources. Brian said they often are purchasing equipment like bats, gloves, balls, skates etc.. He also pointed out that they will pay participation fees if that is what is holding a youth back from participating. The Foundation works closely with Play It Again Sports to ensure the recipients have the equipment they need to participate. Brian described the Foundation as small and that he is the primary spokesperson that seeks donations and that the Foundation has many more requests for help than they can provide for as they operate on a $6,000 to $10,000 budget per year. He notes that providing equipment and fees for just one young person can be expensive so they have to be responsible with funds so they can help the most youth possible. ND Lion Conference 2020 Held Via Zoom
The 2020 North Dakota Lions Conference was held virtually this past weekend. Individuals attended via zoom from across the state and region. Small groups of Lions, like the South Forks Lions, met and participated together while following health guidelines related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Official business and educational sessions were conducted using the zoom platform. Breakout sessions were conducted and are available via the conference website.
South Forks Lions attended via a small group gathering. Attendees were able to vote on issues and here presentations by Lion leadership, both local and international.
Bubba Schweigert Talks Football with South Forks Lions
Coach Schweigert spoke to the South Forks Lions recently about the crazy year facing football teams across the country. "Bubba" provided an update on the UND Fighting Hawks football program. The pandemic has created many challenges for coaches and players. Practice is different, recruiting is different and the schedule is very different with games in the Spring. ******Christmas in the Park Work Day: Lions please make sure to get Saturday, November 14 down on your calendar. That is our work day to get the Christmas in the Park work done. Others have been hard at it for some time so we need to show up and help get the rest of the work done. Thank you to the many Lions that have been working on this for approximately a year. It doesn't just happen. Very committed Lions spend many hours putting it together. Be sure to come to the park on November 14 at 10:00 a.m. to help finish setting up.

South Forks Lions Continue Their Support for Winship School
South Forks Lion support enables all Winship Elementary students to get a t-shirt with the slogan - "We Stand Together." A special thank you to Lion Clair Zirnhelt for his ongoing care for the Winship project. The South Forks Lions stand together with Winship!
