Must-try ice cream spots for this summer

Buona Terra Gelato

Where: 1028 Delta Ave., Mt. Lookout

This store sells delicious gelato made fresh daily through the traditional Italian hot process. They also sell sorbetto, which is similar to sorbet, as well as crepes and macarons.

Recommeded: Buona Terra sells a scoop of gelato sandwiched between two giant macarons. While it is a bit pricier than the other menu items, the amazing combination is worth it.

Old Milford Parlor

Where: 119 Main St., Milford

Cookie dough lovers, this store is for you. Old Milford Parlor sells great ice cream, but one thing that makes them special is their selection of edible cookie dough, which can be eaten on its own or with a scoop of ice cream. There are many ice cream flavors as well as multiple types of cookie dough.

Recommended: It is pretty simple, but you cannot go wrong with a scoop of chocolate ice cream alongside chocolate chip cookie dough.

La Grassa Gelato

Where: 7014 Miami Ave., Madeira

La Grassa, a spin-off from the Italian restaurant A Tavola located next door, sells gelato and sorbetto made with real ingredients. They have a variety of flavors that are crafted through the pozzeti system, which involves keeping the gelato in a covered pot. The store allows you to get two flavors in one cup, which makes for some great combinations.

Recommended: If you want a richer gelato, the chocolate almond and Stracciatella (chocolate chip) flavors are great choices. If you would rather have a fruity sorbetto, the passion fruit and strawberry are both refreshing and delicious.

All three of these ice cream shops have a cute and friendly atmosphere. They all also serve coffee and other drinks if you are not in the mood for ice cream.

Of course, there are always ice cream shop staples such as Graeter’s, Aglamesis Brothers, and Walker Brothers, but if you are looking for something new this summer, these are some great spots to try.
