Israel December 2017 - January 2018 (scroll to view photos)

Welcome to Israel!

  • Landed in Tel Aviv on December 28th, 2017
  • After a 12 hour flight...
  • Going on 36 hours of no sleep
  • Started off with a group activity at Caesarea

Next stop: Bahai Gardens overlooking Haifa and Galilee Hills

We then arrived at the Ohalo Guest House (Kibbutz) and had some good food along the way!

  • The next morning, we hiked Kfar Hoshen (the North) and saw some cool views of Syria
  • Jen got selected to walk the tightrope
  • Next up: Tzfat! (birthplace of Jewish mysticism)
  • Yemenite Sandwhich: Lahoh Hakole
  • Shopping
  • Lots of cats!

The next day was Shabbat so we just hung out and relaxed at the Kibbutz. We also participated in some acro yoga and walked down to the beach to overlook the country Jordan!

Jordan overlooking Jordan :)
  • New Year's Eve!
  • Back to Tel Aviv and Netanya
  • HaShalom Overlook with views of Galilee
  • Gamla Nature Preserve in Golan Heights
  • Falafel for lunch!!
  • Jordan got stuck in the bathroom before going out for New Years, oops! Also had an interesting experience on the bus on the way back from the bars...

Happy New Year! Met our Israeli peers traveling with us for the next few days. Then went to the Rabin Square Memorial and had lunch at this cool mall/market

  • Masada!
  • Hiking up all those steps via the Snake Path
  • At 5 in the morning...had to make it to the top for sunrise!
  • Up top: touring the palace, fortress and famous desert plateau
  • Next stop: the Dead Sea!
  • Salt clusters the size of golf balls
  • Magical mud
  • The water was a little cold but it was so cool to float!
  • The underwater camera came in handy :)
  • And if that day wasn't busy enough, time to ride some camels!
  • Stopped to get some shawarma for lunch
  • Drove to the Negev Desert where we stayed in the bedouin tents
  • Amazing hafla dinner feast
  • Group bonfire and star gazing at night

Definitely the most action-packed day, but also the best day of the trip by far

  • Back to Jerusalem!
  • Nahal Haverim, hike in the desert
  • Sde Boker (retirement home of Israel's first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion)
  • Haas Promenade

Next we drove down to Talmei Yosef (2 miles from the Gaza Strip and 5 miles from Egypt!) and toured the Salad Trail. So many tomatoes, carrots, kumquats and peppers (including the hottest pepper: the Carolina Reaper)

  • The next day was gloomy, both from the weather and from the activities
  • First up was Mt. Herzel, Israel's National Cemetery
  • Our Israeli Peers sang songs and shared stories about being in the IDF
  • Then we went to the Yad Vashemm, the Holocaust Museum

Ended the day with the Western Wall and the Jewish Quarter

Spent the next day at the Machane Yehuda, an open air market in Jerusalem. Had the best hummus at this cute little restaurant. The day after was Shabbat again so we just hung out at the hotel

  • Back to Tel Aviv to participate in this 'Interactive Exploration Tour' in groups. Got some free food!
  • Independence Hall
  • Birthright Israel Innovation Center
  • One last market for snacks
  • Walked Neve Tzedek for a graffiti tour
  • Jaffa Seaport
  • Next up: a 14 hour flight back to Miami

Bye Bus #244!
