Eli Lilly Internship
Congratulations to Savannah Rheams and Keione Mellon, both Healthcare Marketing majors, for being selected for summer internships with Lilly. Savannah is a junior from Norwood, LA and will be participating this summer in a 10-week undergraduate marketing internship at Lilly headquarters in Indianapolis, IN. Keione, a junior from Vicksburg, MS, will be participating in a 10-week undergraduate summer sales internship.
INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Congratulations to Cameron Hardy, James Estrada, and Jazlyn Young, three management students that have been accepted into the prestigious international internship program! These students will be placed with a company in Dublin, Ireland during this upcoming summer! WOW!
KPMG
Accounting students Katie Niemeyer, Ian Vowell, and Abby Anderson are currently participating in Spring 2020 internships with KPMG LLP in the Jackson, MS, Dallas, TX, and New York, NY offices. At the start of their internship, they attended training together at KPMG’s brand new, state-of-the-art learning and development center in Orlando, FL called the Lakehouse.
Economic Outlook Forum
The Economic Outlook Forum, sponsored by The First, will be held on March 5th from 10:30am to 1:30pm in the Thad Cochran Center.

MYB Swayze Finalists
School of Finance students Alese Jones and Brandon Cade have both been selected as 2020 Swayze Scholar finalists! Only five finalists statewide are invited to the Mississippi Young Bankers Convention each year to interview with the MYB Scholarship Committee. The Orrin Swayze Scholastic Awards are presented to Mississippi college students and carry on the tradition of banking excellence started by Orrin H. Swayze Jr., widely-respected Mississippi banker and promoter of banking education.
School of marketing Outreach
The School of Marketing hosted an event called Coffee & Convos, welcoming all business students interested in research to get to know each other and the faculty who support student research. Attendees exchanged ideas and received valuable advice from faculty members.
The School of Marketing has also launched a Lunch & Learn Series, the first being titled Discovery of Internships. During the event, students from Healthcare Marketing, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Sport Management shared their internship story and explained the importance of the experience. The internship coordinator from each program in the school was also there to answer questions and provide further resources.

Eagle scholars
This month the EAGLE Scholars visited YAK Access in Columbia, Miss. to tour the facility and speak with CEO Jonathan Duhon, who shared the story and purpose of the company. The students also learned about teamwork and problem-solving by participating in an escape room together! *SPOILER ALERT: THEY ESCAPED!*
Lifetime achievement award
Congratulations to Jewel Adams for being selected as the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2020 Eagle Awards Ceremony. This award recognizes an individual who has dedicated their life to making an impact in the lives of others. Adams has been with USM 24 years, having worked in its National Food Management Institute, School of Human Performance and Recreation, and currently serves as the administrative specialist in the School of Finance.
Student Research
In the College of Business and Economic Development at Southern Miss, student research is an important component of the educational experience for many of our students. Because of the mentorship provided by our faculty, four business students will be presenting their research project next month at the Association of Marketing Theory and Practice Annual Conference in Sandestin, FL.

Mardi Gras
The Business Student Advisory Council celebrated Mardi Gras by handing out beads and king cake to our business students in Scianna Hall! Representatives from all of our business student organizations participated.
