Focus on Film Lighting the Flashbulb on Ottawa’s Camera Trading Company

Some say it’s a “collector’s dream.” Others call it an “Ottawa gem.” It’s even been referred to as “The coolest store you’ll ever walk into.” But one thing is clear – the Camera Trading Company holds a special place in the hearts of many.

For over 30 years, the store has been a valuable resource to photographers in Ottawa and across the country. Owners Mark Trachtenberg (left) and Thomas Steiner (right), along with employee Robert Ware (centre), announced in early 2017 that they would be transitioning to an exclusively online store. After closing their store in mid-May, their loyal customers expressed disappointment, so the Camera Trading Company decided to find a smaller location where they could open their business to the public on Saturdays. They opened their new location on Bank Street, a few doors down from the original store, one week later. (Molly Pendergast, Centretown News)
