Life Circle of Shared Bikes in China By Jason zhou '23

Chinese people are obsessed with bikes. The nation was known as the "Kingdom of Bicycles" back in the days. Great photographers like Ric Ergenbright and Bruno Barbey travelled all the way to China and recorded the tide of bike revolution in China with their cameras. Nowadays, the shared bikes flooded the city, and people are taking full advantages of it. The intention of shared bikes is to avoid bumping into traffic jams, and a more eco lifestyle. With the mass influx of shared bikes, it has taken a significant amount of public space. The different colors of the different shared bikes became quite a view in my city, Shanghai. However, when there's order, there will be chaos. The abandoned shared bikes are literally metal scraps lying everywhere in Shanghai. In my eyes, every shared bike has its own story. We need to protect them instead of damaging the shared bikes.

Andrew returning the shared bike after the ride. Just simply flick the lock switch on the bike and it will be ready for the next rider.

The bike-sharing system is a big step towards green commuting in my community. It is our responsibilities to protect and make the most of this technology.
