2018 SHU PRESEASON FOOTBALL REPORT WEEK 1

The Pioneers reported for preseason camp on August 3 and capped the first full week of workouts on Saturday morning with their first scrimmage of the season

“I think we are getting into football shape,” head coach Mark Nofri said after Saturday’s scrimmage. “After a week and one day of practicing and conditioning, we are getting there. I think we have a way to go in terms of execution, playing disciplined and playing smart. But I do like the fact that I see a lot of kids running around, flying to the ball, and stepping up and making plays at the skill positions.”

After battling the heat and humidity throughout much of the week, SHU waited out a thunderstorm before battling through raindrops during much of Saturday’s scrimmage

“It’s been hot and we’ve practiced earlier in the morning. It’s part of football camp and getting yourself in shape. To me, toughness is being able to do your job to the best of your abilities and executing when you’re hot and tired. Being able to perform at 100 percent when it is hot and the humidity is high, and not pushing or shoving after the whistle, that’s toughness. Staying focused on doing your job and doing it right.” - Mark Nofri

"Some of the kids are stepping up, making plays for us and doing their job, which is good to see." - Nofri

“It’s the first week, so you really can’t gauge a lot off of that, but I know we have to work on doing our job and get rid of some of the stupid mistakes and penalties that we’re making in practice because those are only going to carry over into the course of the game." - Mark Nofri

Both season and single-game tickets are on sale now for the upcoming 2018 season. SHU will host five games at Campus Field including the season opener on Sept. 1 against Lafayette. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.
