4th Quarter CDL Supply Pick-Up Event
Providing students with the tools you need to be successful is important to us. We will have a drive-thru pick-up event on April 23rd for you to gather materials needed for your student’s quarter 4 CDL classes. This is only for students remaining in CDL, not for students participating in hybrid in person learning. The drive-thru events will be held in the south parking lot. Here is a list of items that will be available:
- Class kits and materials
- Technology Pickup/Replacement
- Quarter 3 kit/material return
Not every CDL student may need to pick up materials for their quarter 4 classes. To know if your student will need to pick up materials at this drive-thru event, please check your student’s quarter 4 schedule on StudentVue or ParentVue, and check if they are scheduled to take any of the following classes during quarter 4. If so, they will need to pick up materials for that class.
- Algebra 2
- Sewing
- Food & Nutrition
- Culinary Management 4
- Robotics
- English 3
- English 4
- Maker Space
- Painting 2
- Drawing 3
- Woods 1
- Anatomy
- World History
- AP US Government students do not have anything to pick up, but students taking the AP Government test need to know they can keep their textbooks until the end of the year, but the rest of the seniors should return them.
Below are the dates and times for the drive-thru event. You do not need to sign up. Please come any time during the drive through event.
- April 23rd: 8-10am and 2pm-4pm
Again, if your student is participating in hybrid learning, they do not need to pick anything up at this event.
Hybrid Learning Updates & Info
4th Quarter Hybrid/CDL Schedules and Information
We are excited to welcome students back to the building tomorrow! We have juggled many classes and done everything possible to get students the classes they requested and/or need. In some instances, CDL students may be split between cohorts (ie., they will have some classes on Monday/Wednesday and some classes on Tuesday/Thursday).
For some hybrid students, they may have a CDL class scheduled in their day. This is because some classes are solely taught in CDL. Students who have a CDL class in their schedule should report to the main commons during the scheduled class time. We will have administrators and campus supervisors there to monitor students while they participate in the CDL course from school.
How can I tell if I’m a Hybrid student or a CDL student? We have added a placeholder for all Hybrid students during period Zero. Students who are in Hybrid will have this placeholder on their schedule. The placeholder reads HYBRID-Q4 HS - HYBRID LEARNING. Refer to the example that addresses the next question to see the placeholder designation.
I’m a Hybrid student. How can I tell if I have a class taught in CDL? In the schedule example below, this student’s 3rd period class is Robotics. The Section ID has the letters CDL in the ID. It also doesn’t have a room listed. If a schedule contains a class with CDL in the Section ID and it doesn’t have a room number, that is a class taught in CDL. This student will report to the Main Commons during Period 3.
I’m a Hybrid student. What should I bring for school supplies? Students who are attending in person should bring the following items (teachers will notify students if they need other items during the 1st week of 4th Quarter):
- Chromebook, fully charged (or other laptop if you use your own)
- Chromebook charger
- One mask to wear, and one extra if available (we have masks for students who may need them)
- Backpack
- Basic supplies like notebook paper, pens and pencils
- Filled Water Bottle (drinking fountains are not available)
Daily Bell Schedules for Hybrid and CDL
As mentioned previously, we have aligned the Hybrid and CDL bell schedules to better serve students’ course requests. The bell schedules can be found below. As a reminder, cohorts are divided by alphabet. Students with the last names beginning A-K are in cohort A; students with the last names beginning L-Z are in cohort B.
There is an additional 20 minutes built into periods 2 and 6 for students to each breakfast. This time will also be used to check in with students, conduct safety drills and provide students with information.
Students will have the opportunity to take a Grab & Go breakfast and lunch. We will have stations set up in the Commons and at main exits.
Hybrid Learning FAQs
Please continue checking the Hybrid Learning FAQ document as we get closer and closer to April 19th. As you have questions, please reach out! This is new for all of us and we will continue to work to create the best experience possible for our students! Also, check out this Hybrid Info Video that was shared with students in Tiger Time last week that covers some basic protocol and procedures for Hybrid in-person learning.
Secondary Self Check at Home
As we transition back to in-person learning, we will conduct a visual screen of students as they enter each day. To support the health of all students and staff, an at-home symptom check is going to be an essential part of your morning routine. Ask yourself the following questions regarding your NHS student before sending them to school:
- Has your child been identified by the health department as a positive case of COVID-19 or had close contact (within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes) of a confirmed or presumed positive case? If yes, stay home. Follow exclusion guidance.
- Does your child have a fever (100.4 or higher), shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, persistent or new cough, or new loss of taste or smell? If yes, stay home. Follow exclusion guidance.
- Does your child have other exclusion symptoms including fever, undiagnosed rash, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, or unexplained behavior change? If yes, stay home. Follow exclusion guidance.
- For a printable version of these questions and recommended exclusion guidelines, click here.
If your student is sick, has an appointment, or other excused absence, please call our attendance office at 503-554-4532 to have it excused.
Tech Devices for NHS Hybrid Learning
NHS students will be expected to bring their NSD chromebook fully charged to campus for Hybrid class time. NHS students are allowed to bring their fully charged personal laptops. Students should expect to keep their personal laptops secure at all times. A district chromebook can still be checked out to a student who does not yet have one and is in need of a device for Hybrid learning. Students who are in need of a chromebook because they do not yet have one, may fill out this Google form and a NHS library staff member will be able to prepare a chromebook for checkout for the remainder of the year.
If you should have questions or problems related to your NSD chromebook, you may direct those to our NSD Tech Department to connect with one of our technology specialists for assistance with device and connectivity questions: support@newberg.k12.or.us or call 503.554.4545 to get help in English or Spanish.
Student Parking Permit Information for Hybrid
When we return to campus for Hybrid in-person learning, students planning to park their cars on campus during the school day must have a current, 2020-2021 parking permit. There is no cost for the permit, but it is important that we have accurate information for everyone who is parking their vehicle on campus during the school day. If you already completed the parking permit application in the fall, there is no need to do it again. If you have not completed the application yet, you can complete it HERE. If you have questions about the parking permit application, please contact our Bookkeeper, Maribel Martinez: martinezm@newberg.k12.or.us. After completing the application, students will then be able to pick up their parking permit from the following locations:
- Main Office
- Counseling Office
- Attendance Office
- Bookkeeping Office
- Athletic Office
During Hybrid in-person learning, parking will be available on a first come basis. The only assigned and reserved parking spots will be the Senior Painted Parking Spots. All other parking spots are available to both students and staffulty.

College & Career Center
Decision Day: May 1st is the day that many colleges require admitted students to confirm they will be attending their college. It is also the start of our month-long celebration of our NHS seniors' post high school plans!
Seniors can join in the celebration by filling out the Decision Day survey that was emailed to their school email to let us know what their after high school plans are, whether they are college, military, work, or otherwise.
Seniors should fill out this form by May 2nd, or as soon as they have made their plans, and we will include seniors in the celebrations throughout May!
Summer Paid Pre-Apprenticeship Program through Chemeketa. Find more information and the application HERE. Application Deadline: April 30th.
There is still time to apply for college and financial aid. Oregon Goes To College is teaming up with Oregon community colleges to support 12th graders who are still making their plans for continuing their education next fall. Colleges will offer virtual activities April 19-30 to help students explore their options, apply for admission, complete their FAFSA or ORSAA, and submit their Oregon Promise application. You can help spread the word by sharing social media posts and e-mailing or texting students & families. Find templates in the Media Kit for Educators on the Spring Into Action website: oregongoestocollege.org/spring. Oregon Goes To College is a statewide initiative of Oregon GEAR UP.

SAFE Oregon Tip Line
Many districts across the State have adopted SAFE Oregon as their primary tip line. This summer, the Newberg School District has made it the primary source for reporting any issues that need the attention of the school. Tips can be sent by phone, text, via the web or through an app. At the high school, students have received this information in their class assemblies and school-wide safety videos. Encourage your student to download the app and/or put the number into their phone. If you would like more information regarding the tip line, please visit SAFEOregon.com.
