Coker Cobras

The Coker College men's basketball team is set to open up South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday (Nov. 28) when they host the Wingate Bulldogs in a rematch of last season's South Atlantic Conference Championships Quarterfinals. On Thursday, they'll have a rematch of a different type when they look to avenge their 100-75 loss to Limestone (Nov. 20). Tipoff is set for 8:00 pm on Wednesday, and 7:00 pm on Thursday in the DeLoach Center. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.

The Coker College men's basketball team finished the 2017-18 season with a 12-17 overall record, including an impressive 9-11 showing versus South Atlantic Conference opponents. The Cobras earned a berth to the quarterfinals of the South Atlantic Conference Championship before falling to Wingate 76-75 in a tense overtime classic. Coker is currently 1-3 this season, and coming off their first win of the season, a 73-61 victory over Southern Wesleyan (Nov. 20).

Player to Watch

Robertson scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds, and dished out eight assists in Coker's victory over Southern Wesleyan. The senior transfer from Coastal Carolina has the potential to become an explosive offensive weapon for the Cobras. He averaged 14.7 points per game, while shooting 46.8% from the field as a sophomore at Highland Community College before transferring to Coastal Carolina.

Wingate vs Coker

Wingate finished 15-15 last season, including an 11-9 mark in South Atlantic Conference play. The Bulldogs are off to a 2-4 start this season, with victories over Belmont Abbey (Nov. 9) and Fayetteville State (90-68). They've been led offensively by 6-5 guard Marco Haskins, who currently leads the entire South Atlantic Conference at 22.2 points per game.

Wingate was picked by South Atlantic Conference coaches to finish fourth overall in the 2018-19 men's basketball preseason poll. The Bulldogs and Cobras last met on Feb. 28, 2018 when Wingate prevailed 76-75 in the quarterfinals of the South Atlantic Conference Championship.

Player to Watch

Strozier has enjoyed a fast start to his collegiate career, averaging 14.0 points per game while shooting .522% on three-pointers. He knocked down eight of his first 12 three-pointers while averaging 17.5 points per game in just 18.5 minutes per game in the Bulldogs' first two home contests.

Limestone vs Coker

Thursday, November 29th | 7:00 PM | DeLoach Center

Limestone finished 13-16 overall last season, including an 8-10 mark in Conference Carolinas action. The Saints upset Mount Olive in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament before falling to Belmont Abbey in the semifinals. The Saints are 5-1 this season, with three overtime victories over Mars Hill, Wingate, and Claflin.

The Saints were picked by the coaches to finish seventh in 2018-19 Conference Carolinas men's basketball preseason poll. They split with the Cobras last season, beating Coker at home, and then losing on the road.

Player to Watch

Hairston was selected to the All-Conference Carolinas First Team last season, and currently leads the Saints offense averaging 17.3 points per game this year. Hairston opened the season scoring 24 points against Mars Hill (Nov. 9), and 27 points against Wingate (Nov. 10). He's currently shooting .444% from three-point range.
