Professor Getatchew Haile is an Ethiopian-American philologist widely considered the foremost scholar of the Ge'ez language alive today. He was acknowledged for his contributions to the field with a MacArthur Fellows Program "genius" award and the Edward Ullendorff Medal from the Council of the British Academy.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you for your support during the public forum for the establishment of Ethiopic studies and culture at the University of Toronto on Saturday December 19, 2015. We are deeply moved by the whole experience and such a positive outcome.
During and after this Public Forum we raised more than $25,000 plus a canvas painting valued at $3,800 to $4,500 donated by award winning and internationally recognized artist, Yared Nigussu from Vancouver. A very generous donation of $10,000 was made by an anonymous donor which will go to matching the $50,000 donation by Professor Gervers and the additional $50,000 donation by the University of Toronto to create the Ethiopic studies endowment fund at University of Toronto.

Yared Nigussu, an internationally recognized artist from Vancouver, has generously donated a beautiful painting that will be auctioned. The donations of this auction will be made soon and all proceeds will go to the development of the Ethiopic Studies and Culture Endowment Fund at the University of Toronto.
