#RUNTCC TALLAHASSEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

WHY TALLAHASSEE COMMUNITY COLLEGE IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR YOUR CROSS COUNTRY AND/OR TRACK & FIELD CAREER?

Tallahassee Community College is one of the elite two-year athletics programs in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). Established in 1990, the Eagles initially competed in men's basketball and baseball. Softball was added in 1993, followed by women's basketball in 1994. It would be 21 years before the Eagles' program expanded again.

The Eagles are off and running in their first-ever event on August 26, 2016.

TCC launched women's cross country, its first fall sport, in 2016 and debuted the men's team a year later. As part of the fall schedule, the Eagles have also participated in the NJCAA Half Marathon in 2016 and 2018. TCC has since added men's and women's track & field in 2019.

TCC's track & field team participated in the prestigious FAMU Relays in 2019.

L-R: TCC's inaugural men's cross country team in action in 2017, Mia Wiederkehr (center) competes in the 800m at the 2019 NJCAA Track Championships in Hobbs, N.M.

Through its first four seasons on the trails, the Eagles have produced five FCSAA all-state runners, including the 2017 Women's Individual State Champion and Women's Runner of the Year, Meagan Giddens.

TCC's All-State Runners (Top-Bottom, L-R): Samantha Reilly (2016), Mia Wiederkehr (2016), Meagan Giddens (2017), Brandon Flagler (2018) and Genevieve Printiss (2019).

Why TCC?

Academics

TCC was named one of the nation's Top 10 Community Colleges in 2020 by the Aspen Institute. Our faculty are highly-rated, and our Learning Commons rivals many NCAA programs. The result? 15 NJCAA All-Academic selections, 16 NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association Scholar All-America honorees and nine NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year (cross country, half marathon, track & field) since 2016. Cross country's Ashley Maxwell was the student speaker at the College's 2019 Commencement Ceremony.

Coaching

Train under a Hall of Fame Coach.

Gary Droze, who was inducted into the FHSAA Hall of Fame in 2018, led the Maclay Marauders to a combined 20 state championships in cross country and track & field. He's on a mission to build a similar legacy at TCC.

Facilities

Our home course, Apalachee Regional Park, will host the 2022 NJCAA Championships, which means high school graduates in 2021 and 2022 will have the opportunity to run a national championship event at home! Plus, there are more than 1,600 miles of trails in Leon County, providing various terrain for conditioning.

Opportunity

TCC is the ONLY two-year school in Florida who offers track & field...

...and the ONLY two-year school in the Southeast who runs BOTH track AND cross country.

Participating in events hosted by four-year colleges and universities...

...is a prime recruiting opportunity for our student-athletes.

If you’re interested in either or both teams, complete our online recruiting questionnaire & a member of our coaching staff will follow up with you.
