Demographics
- The 2011 Scottish census stated 57,375 people speak Gaelic. From the 2000 to 2011 census the number dropped by 1,000 people.That is 1% of the population.
- Only 32,400 could read and write.
- Scottish Gaelic is not considered an official language of the Untied Kingdom but rather is considered a Indigenous language.
"With 18 letters in its alphabet, no direct equivalent for ‘no’ or ‘yes’ and five syllables needed to say ‘please’, it is very different from English."
