There is always discourse around the holiday of love. What you're going to give, whether to buy or make, what kind of budget to stick with. Here are a few easy do-it-yourself crafts for your significant other on valentines day.
1.) Origami Hearts
What you'll need:
- sheets of paper (between 3x3 in. and 10x10 in.)
- (optional) markers/pens to write notes
- Fold paper diagonally both ways.
- Bring one corner into the center.
- Bring opposite corner to edge of fold.
- Bring one side of bottom fold to the center
- Repeat with other side of bottom fold.
- Fold tops of heart down about 1/2 in.
- Fold corners of heart in about 1/2 in.
2.) Paper Flowers
What you'll need:
- colorful A4 paper
- circular object about 5 cm in diameter
- scissors
- stapler
- glue
- Use a circular object to draw out as many circles on a sheet of paper. Repeat with as many sheets as you want.
- Cut out all circles.
- Take one circle and fold it in half. DO NOT CREASE.
- Fold in half again at center. Fluff the petals.
- Repeat with all the circles.
- Take 3 folded circles, and line them all up in the center.
- Staple the folded circles near the top of the petals.
- Fluff out petals, and make into a 6 petal flower.
- Glue the ends where you can see the staples.
- Repeat with as many flowers as you want.
3.) String Art Heart
What you'll need:
- Wood square 10 x 10 in.
- finishing nails (1 in. long)
- bracelet string (any color)
- hammer
- acrylic paint (optional)
- decorations (optional)
- Superglue (optional)
- Paint and seal the wood (optional).
- Draw out the design of the heart you want.
- Put nails in, following the design.
- Tie one end of the string to a single nail.
- Go around the heart, one nail at a time.
- Loop the string around in any pattern you desire.
- Once finished, tie the end of the string to a nail.
- To keep string from fraying, put a drop of superglue on the knots (optional)
- Cut out hearts in any size. There must be a match for the amount of hearts you want.
- Cut pieces of string in any length you choose.
- Put glue one the blank side of one heart.
- Place the string in the center of the heart.
- With the same size heart, put glue on the blank side, and place on the string to match the first heart (should look double sided).
- Repeat as many times as you want, in any pattern, with any sized spacing.
4.) Origami Heart Box
What you'll need:
- colorful paper (21x21 cm.)
- markers/pens to write message (optional)
- extra paper for messages (optional)
- Fold paper in half horizontally. Repeat opposite side.
- Fold diagonally. Repeat opposite side.
- Bring corners into center. Unfold.
- Fold opposite facing corners up to the new folds.
- Fold same sides twice to have them meet in the center.
- With your finger in the middle, fold up sides to start making the box.
- Fold down box side, and bring corners back into the center.
- Bring the top corner of the side back down to meet with the other corners
- Fold down to create an area to fold the heart.
- Repeat steps 6-9 on other side.
- Fold heart area over to opposite side (should be looking at the back).
- Bring bottom corner to the center.
- Bring top corner about 1/3 of the way down.
- Fold the corners underneath the back of the heart (they will hold themselves there).
- Repeat steps 11-14 on other side.
- Open box (pull apart box, it will pop up)
- Fold the top corners of the box in, to create the peaks of the heart.
- Cut piece of paper the size of the bottom of the box and write a message. Put it on the inside of the box (optional)
5.) Personalized Jars
What you'll need:
- glass jar (any size)
- acrylic paint
- brushes
- sealant (I used mod podge)
- any extra decorations you want to use (glitter, stickers, etc.)
- glue (for decorations)
- Make sure the jar is fully cleaned. Let dry if need be.
- Pick out your color palette.
- Start with whatever base color you chose. Let dry.
- Start painting whatever design decorations you want. Let dry.
- Once finished, seal design to prevent chipping.
- Put anything you want in the jar, and enjoy.
