Course Format
Time/Schedule
At the beginning of each unit, a course meeting calendar will be posted on Schoology. Furthermore, all unit materials will be loaded and due dates will be posted. It is expected that all assignments (transition tasks, learning resources, and assessments) are completed by the assigned due date. The Schoology dropboxes for transition tasks and learning resources will lock at 10 pm on the assigned due date. Module Assessments will be accepted until the end of the unit, but 50% will be deducted. Please check the Schoology calendar to see the posted "unit last chance deadlines." You should make EVERY EFFORT to attend our face-to-face sessions. Should you incur too many face-to-face absences, or fall behind in our online work, you may be asked to return to a traditional classroom setting. If your grade falls below 74%, you are required to attend class until further notice.
Place/Space
Within the first 15 minutes of every asynchronous class period, you are required to submit the Attendance Form. This form can be found within the "Course Information" folder on Schoology. If you do not, you will be marked "absent" for the class period. After three unexcused absences due to failure to submit the Attendance Form, you will be written up for cutting class. I will be available for “office hours”-- feedback, extra help, tutoring, just to chat-- during our regular course time on days when we are not scheduled to meet. Work is posted in Schoology by module. Although you may work through the assignments in each cycle at your own pace, you must adhere to all assigned due dates. If your grade falls below 74%, you are required to attend class until further notice.
Student-Centered
Blended learning allows for YOU to choose resources which most interest your needs, experiences, and life. Being familiar with Schoology, and watching the module introduction videos, will be key in understanding your requirements.
Assessment
Your midterm will be administered in person (in school). You are required to complete the midterm, in person and in the classroom. A midterm schedule will be provided ASAP for scheduling purposes. If you complete the course requirements as described by me later in the semester, you will not need to be present in class to take your Final.
Collaborative
Although much of our work will be able to be completed at your own pace, there will be several opportunities for collaboration with your peers -- in this section and others. Please get in to the habit of logging into Schoology AT LEAST ONCE A DAY to check on our course.
Relevant
Career Development is a course designed to prepare you for the opportunities that await you after high school. It will be different from most other courses you have taken in your life, because this course is designed around YOU. You will explore your beliefs, values, likes, dislikes, personality, work/learning styles, and culture.
Cell Phone/Headphone Policy
Cell phones and headphones are not permitted during synchronous class periods. During synchronous class periods, it is important that we are present and mindful while we are in the same space at the same time. Cell phones and headphones create an obstacle and distraction to many learning experiences. If there is a specific activity that requires the use of these tools, student will be instructed to access them. If a student chooses to dismiss this policy, the student will be asked to place the cell phone and/or headphones on the teacher’s desk for the remainder of the period.
