In my opinion, Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year in the Pacific Northwest. On a sunny day, the weather is crisp and the colors of the leaves falling from the trees are so vibrant. It is a real life Bob Ross painting.
The Pacific Northwest experiences four real seasons, which makes it such a beautiful place to live, 3 seasons out of the year (results may vary, depending on the Seattle Freeze...😅). Fall doesn’t always include clear sunny days, but when it does, you’ll be sure to see the faint lines of chem trails dissipating into the sky.
All jokes aside, Autumn brings out the beauty in Washington. People flood their Pinterest boards with hundreds of pictures of cute girls with pumpkin spice lattes in hand, and fill up their online shopping carts with new clothes before the Winter arrives. Reds, oranges, yellows, and greens in everything from sweaters to jeans. It’s a nice change in scenery compared to the 50 shades of gray we experience year-round.
Some of our favorite fall trends include boots and booties of all shapes and sizes (combat boots being especially popular in Seattle), chunky cable knit sweaters, elbow patch “grandpa” cardigans, bomber jackets layered with hoodies, and our favorite olive anorak jackets. And of course, you can’t forget this Pacific Northwest staple ya’ll... we have plaid for DAYS. Yes, the list goes on, but as long as the garment is warm and has a hipster flare to it, you can find it in Seattle for sure.
So now the question is, what fall essentials should you be shopping for? My suggestion would be to wear a basic long sleeve mock neck or turtle neck top, and style it with a trendy patterned bottom like a skirt or trouser. Glen plaid is a really fashionable pattern that you’ll be able to find at any fast fashion retailer this season. It looks chic and is usually neutral in color which makes it easy to add some visual interest to your outfit. If you don’t like shirts with high necks, you can always wear a top or bodysuit with button details which are an adorable alternate choice.
While you’re shopping, you’ll probably notice a lot of retailers will be selling longline cardigans and coats, so take advantage of it! We can never have too many in our cold and rainy weather. Leather jackets are also a great look for this time of year, and they transition well into the winter months.
Stock up on some cute warm socks and scarves to really elevate your outfit, you can even give leg warmers a try under your boots! Or make it easy and throw on a sweater dress with some knee-high boots and you’re good to go. Also, don’t forget about the wide selection of felt and wool wide brim hats at this time of year!
So there you have it. In the Pacific Northwest, layering is key. And remember to expand your wardrobe by adding some fall accessories. From shoes to scarves, jewelry and hats. There are so many available at this time of year.
