NaknEk, Alaska A PhotoStory

Naknak Alaska is the storage point for the majority of the Bristol Bay fleet. Boats are constistanly stacked upon the beach season after season. In the early summer the muddy banks of the Naknak River teem with the excitement and bustle of fishermen preparing their nets and boats for another summer of salmon

Even large vessels, known as tenders ride their way up the shore to be stored for the winter

From the beach...
To the yard

Where there are fishermen, there are work trucks, or at least parts of them. Most of Naknak is littered with hints and remnants of past seasons.

Some Have More Character Than Others

"It's been this way for as long as I can remember..."

Time stands still for much of the gear of the past

Hints from yesteryear cover the boat yards

The old is discarded for the new and left wherever it was last used

Leader Creek holds a veritable graveyard of vessels that no longer serve anymore purpose that perpetuating rust.

A collection of discarded vessels litter the beach along the muddy shores of Nannek

Leader Creek houses some interesting relics of the past
