Hope College hosted the 22nd annual Calling All Colors Fall Conference on their campus this past Tuesday. There were seven different school districts involved from different chapters of Calling All Colors at their respective schools.
Students participated in a mix of small group activities such as watching and discussing videos as well as listening to keynote speakers in large groups.
Topics of discussion included racism people have faced in their everyday lives as well as ways to break boundaries and eliminate stereotypes in our own communities.
Members also wrote compliments to others on sticky notes in order to get outside their comfort zones and talk with new people. Several kids remarked that these notes made their day.
“My favorite part was seeing all the schools come together,” sophomore Lola Lawrence said. “We’re all in the same club but we all have very different ideas of the club and ways that we are helping out with changing things. I just think it’s cool to hear everybody else’s perspective.”
