2018 Annual Report Highlights Celebrating 40 Years of Environmental Action

Our Vision

All Arlingtonians are collectively engaged in creating a sustainable environment.

2018

A year of reflection, promise, and increased action.

We looked back on 40 years of service supporting Arlington's natural resources.

We recognized our expanded focus and adopted a new look and a new name to better align with who we are today and where we are going in the future.

And, we diversified our outreach to increase our connection with the community.

Forty years ago, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment established a goal to clean up litter.

Buoyed by volunteers and donors, we began working to increase energy efficiency, contributing to schoolyard education, leading recycling programs, solar co-ops, and more.

As our work expanded beyond litter, our name, Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment no longer fully defined our work.

On Earth Day 2018, we changed our name to EcoAction Arlington.

Our accomplishments illuminate the community and individual support critical to helping us preserve and enhance the health of our environment.

Each year we connect with and introduce more individuals to energy efficiency strategies.

We mobilize more volunteers in cleaning up litter.

We offer hands-on environmental education to students.

We increase volunteer involvement in activities that protect and support our ecosystem.

And, we help homeowners realize the benefits trees contribute to our water, air quality, and well-being.

ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY

This year,

882 volunteers took part in one or more activities to improve our air, water, and land.

Advancing Energy Efficiency

121 low-income families increased energy efficiency with the help of the Energy Masters program.

186 LED light bulbs were installed.

162 faucets were equipped with low-flow aerators.

REDUCING LITTER

590 bags of trash were collected; removing debris and protecting our land and waterways.

PREPARING THE FUTURE

2706 students gained hands-on training in sustainable environmental practices.

INCREASING TREE CANOPY

173 trees were planted, increasing our tree canopy, enhancing water quality and energy efficiency.

We're working toward a brighter future in 2019

EcoAction Arlington is a place where everyone, whether you live in or near Arlington, can contribute through actions, big and small, that reduce pollution and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

With the launch of new programs in the summer of 2018, like the Plastic Free Challenge, it's easy to start doing more for our planet by eliminating or reducing single-use plastics from your daily routine.

In 2019,

EcoAction Arlington will continue building on our 40-year history, expanding our social, volunteer, and educational activities, and engaging our community in caring for our home here on Earth, but we can't do it without you.
