Today was a baptism of fire! 26km and over 600m of ascent as we walked from San Miniato to Gambassi Terme in the warmth of the tuscan sun. It never helps when the last few km are all up hill as you ascend to the typical Tuscan villages!
We purchased lunch back in San Miniato as our map indicated no little towns along the way. Which, just as well, was the case.
In contrast to the Spanish Camino, we only came across a total of 5 others walking this Camino. One young Frenchman had started in Switzerland and was walking from the Great St Bernard Pass all the way to Rome.
However, we did finally make it to our destination with the reward being our accommodation. A lovely Tuscan countryside Villa. Luckily we had booked the half board option, so we didn’t have far to walk for diner that evening.
