I’m Emily Chen, a student in the Masters of Educational Technology Program at the University of British Columbia. As an assignment in the ETEC 523 course, I decided to publish my critical analysis of an emerging facet of mobility on gamified English learning APPs.
This area is of great interest to me because my company is currently developing a language learning APP specifically targeting English as a second language learners. The age group I am particularly interested in is the young learners group between ages 3-8 years old. My company developed a learning APP in 2018 for the purpose of adopting the Flipped Classroom method in our private tutoring centers in China. In 2020, the negative impact that COVID-19 had on private tutoring businesses in China made us realize that we cannot rely solely on our offline centers for revenue, we need to explore online language education as well.
