"A painting is not a picture of an experience, but is the experience." -Mark Rothko
Do you think it is possible to paint a memory using only blocks of color? After studying the "simplicity" of the famous color manipulator, Mark Rothko, Mr. Pyrc's Form 6 artists took on that exact challenge...
When I was born, I got this blanket it was a soft pink but over the years it got stained and faded. The soft pinks and peaches represent that.
My inspiration for this piece was when I won my first tennis tournament. The yellow background resembles a tennis ball, the blue square resembles my tennis racket because it is blue, and then the gray resembles my favorite tennis outfit I love to wear.
My GiGi’s beach house was always such a fun getaway. The beach house was such a fun treat during the summer. We would travel down to Port Aransas with friends, and we would spend a week on vacation. When Hurricane Harvey hit, the beach house needed some work. My GiGi spent lots of time and money fixing up the house. It wasn’t finished for 2 years, so when we first arrived for the first time since Harvey, the whole place had been re-decorated. The colors in my piece are the colors of the newly-decorated house. Even though the house is not ours anymore, it still has such a special place in my heart, and that is why I made my project about the beach house.
The inspiration for this Mark Rothko themed watercolor comes from a fragment of a memory from when I was small. I was riding my tricycle along a street with my babysitter, and I was collecting little pink and yellow flowers.
My inspiration was the very first time I played D&D (dungeons and dragons). My friend Max invited me over to his house along with a few other friends (pre-coronavirus) to play D&D. I had never played before so I agreed with a little skepticism. He handed out a set of dice to each of us and we began to play. We played for hours, laughing and shouting as our characters either slayed or was slain by horrific monsters. The colors of my painting, red, orange, gold, and black were the colors of my very first set of D&D dice.
This inspiration is from when I was little and I got my first bike. When I was little I begged and begged for a purple bike for Christmas. So my grandmother went searching and searching for a purple bike, so on Christmas Day I got a tiny purple bike!
I was at my friend's house for Halloween. We stole all the candy and let no one get any. That's why it was so fun!
3 years ago, I got my dog, Spikey. He is the center of my universe. About 2 years ago, a little incident happened. My dad and I get back from running some arronds and we brought Spikey. We closed the garage and went it, i came back out to grab something and I see Spikey crushed under the garage. The color that went through my head at that moment was ultramarine and that is why that was my backround color. I used red because of blood, gray because I thought about when I found him on the street, we saw him while I was in my moms gray honda, purple because that symbolized fear, and black because i was scared. (Spikey has since fully recovered)
I used the colors black, red, and orange because when I think of Halloween I think if these colors.
When I was really little, I would take my stuffed animal bunny and my little blanket which was lavender, white, and pink. If I forgot them anywhere my mom would go home to get them just for me to be happy.
My lucky outfit that I wear everytime I show at a horseshow. I wear Green, 4 leaf clovers socks, brown riding pants, a brown bit belt, a light pink shirt and a black helmet. I have done really well every time I wear that outfit.
When I was 11 or 12 I got this shirt that was a ski lodge shirt and I would wear this nearly every day. The lake is really special to me too because I practically grew up there. So every day I would get up and rummage through my clothes and try to find it. Thats what inspired me to use these colors.
My inspirations was the first time I ever snow skied. About a year ago, around New Year's Eve, my parents and I decided to end 2019 in Ruidoso, New Mexico. I had always wanted to go skiing, but the opportunity never presented itself, for we were always busy that time of year, and our summers were jam packed to where the most time we stayed at home was about a week in total. Since it never snows in Texas, this was a big deal to me. We had gotten all of our gear the few weeks before and we were very excited. We reached the ski resort after a long twisty road that went up, down, and in-between mountains. We got out of the car and walked up to the front. It took us a while to get checked in and get our skis, but we were finally ready to take on the hills. After we had had lessons on how to ski, and we had surpassed level one, we were ready for the big hills. As I sailed down the hill, a feeling akin to flying overcame me. The more I did this, the better I became, and ended up having the time of my life. I chose the color scheme I did for my painting because these colors remind me of now and ice. The grey represents staying warm in the cold and the blue represents the crisp snow.
I painted this watercolor different shades of blue to stand for the Beach. My memory from the beach was about two years ago. It was my little brothers birthday and my grandparents threw a party at the beach for him. All day the water was the prettiest blue. I was really surprised because the beach water in Texas is usually a muddy green. Thats my watercolor memory!
When I was about five years old, my family was at the JW Marriot. We were enjoying a wonderful trip with all my other cousins. The last day we were there my parents and I decided we would go to the water park for the last time. I decided to I would go up the little water slide. I ran up the slide and slipped on the concrete stair. My forehead ended up hitting right on the edge of the stair. My parents as stressed as they were picked my up and took me to the nearest medical clinic. I needed stitches and decided never to run up stairs again!
This inspiration for my Rothko watercolor painting comes from the stain glass window at our church. We usually visit this church every Sunday, but due to the circumstances we have been joining online masses. In common row we sit on, there is a stain glass window on the side of us. Ever since I was little, we have always taken pictures next to the same stain glass window. I chose this for my inspiration because of the different colors that play in this scene.
The first time I went to Florida for Christmas, my brother buried me in the sand. I remember the colors surrounding me. The sky was clear blue, the sand was peach and the sun was bright yellow.
The inspiration behind this Mark Rothko themed watercolor comes from this one picture of me when I was little. The picture was taken in Costa Rica, I wouldn't have been older than 2 or 3 I was wearing a yellow and pink swim suit the water was pure blue.
