In a game filled with plenty of emotion after last years Grand Final, the Redlegs came out with a point to prove booting the first three majors of the contest. The Legs controlled most of the possession in the early stages of the match and made North pay with their quick ball movement and transition from defence into attack.

Norwood ruckman Sam Baulderstone unleashed a 60m goal to put his side up by 19 points nearing time-on of the first term and from there, the Redlegs were never seriously challenged until deep into the final stanza. North steadied well after the first break however it took until the 13th minute mark for Strato Agorastos to give the home the first goal of the quarter.

Unfortunately for North, the Redlegs replied within minutes through an un-likely source in defender Alex Georgiou. Georgiou’s goal seemed to inspire the Redlegs which saw them kick the next two through Matthew Panos and Peter Bampton.

The Legs had a handy five goal advantage heading into the main break, although weren’t as efficient going inside 50 in the second term.

Speedster Matthew Nunn brought the Norwood crowd into life within the first minute of the third term unleashing his first of the contest from 45 metres out. Norwood dominated the clearances resulting in Brady Dawe and Panos kicking goals within a minute of each other.

Dual Magarey Medallist Mitch Grigg executed a lovely set shot at the end of the Premiership quarter to give a 40 point lead heading into the final break.

Bampton was lively up forward for Norwood as he booted his fourth of the contest six minutes into the last. As the match went on Norwood weren’t to be denied, as they continued to absorb numerous attacks from the Roosters. As Bampton kicked his fifth from 35 metres, the result was all but put beyond doubt cementing Norwood’s fifth win in a row.

Matthew Panos was as influential as ever winning the Bob Quinn Medal for best player on the ground in the SANFL’s traditional Anzac Day clash. He finished with 27 disposals, 12 marks, 7 clearances and 3 goals. Bampton was also impressive for Norwood booting a game high 5 goals along with 8 marks and 16 touches.
