As we look forward to the holidays, we are again faced with an order to stay home. It is tiring and frustrating and we all long for things to get back to normal. But this is the time of Thanksgiving, a time to reflect and to recognize all we have to be grateful for.
It has been tough here at NEF as we have had to cancel and postpone events making our fundraising efforts more challenging. As we worked to put this newsletter together, however, we were reminded of the things we are grateful for.
- Thank you for all of the sponsors and donors whose ongoing support makes our work possible. We cannot do it without you!
- Thank you for all who give their support by attending NEF events . . . especially all of the golfers who wore masks and social distanced so we could put on our golf outing!
- Thank you for all of the volunteers who help make our events amazing experiences.
- Thank you for all of the Northville businesses who donate to our auctions and raffles. Now, it is our turn to support you!
- Thank you for all of our teachers and staff who give so much to our students and then gave some more to NEF.
- Thank you for all of the teachers, who went the extra mile of imagining amazing projects for their students and then applied for Innovative Teaching Grants to make them happen.
- Thank you for the Principals who, even with their busy schedules, made NEF Innovative Grant Award Day possible. You were all wonderful NEF Representatives!
- Thank you for all of the teachers and staff in our schools who plan, adjust and do a million little things every day for our students.
- Thank you for all of our District staff who are making every effort to accommodate everyone’s needs while trying to understand and follow COVID orders, rules and regulations.
- Thank you for our School Board Members who listen to everyone’s concerns, criticisms and comments and then try to make the best decision for our students and teachers.
- Thank you for a wonderful Northville community who, in spite of our differences, will jump in and help where there is a need.
We are a very strong and fortunate community and when we reflect on all that we have, it is harder to dwell on what we don’t. We hope that you and your family are in good spirits and health and however you choose to celebrate, we hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Christa, Kate & the Northville Educational Foundation Board
2020/2021 Annual Campaign
What a year it has been...
COVID has impacted everything. Where and how you work, how you socialize, and especially the way your kids are going to school . . . Nothing about it has been normal. But Northville teachers and staff are working hard to make it work. Sure, there have been some stumbles, but they are quickly adjusting and giving your student everything they’ve got. Meanwhile, your kids are proving their resiliency. They are wearing their masks while they learn and grow.
NEF will continue to be an integral part of supporting the educational opportunities, programs and resources offered at the Northville Public Schools. We are helping provide tools like mapAccelerator which will help tackle the “academic slide” that occurred when COVID struck last spring and we were forced to shut down our schools. Teachers are developing individual learning plans for each K-8 student and tracking their progress. Modern Teacher is another tool that helps support our teachers with training and templates to engage students across multiple learning environments. Of course, we know you are also concerned about your student’s social, emotional and mental well-being. We are too, therefore, we are also providing funding to help the district address these important needs. All of this is possible because of your donation.
We need you. Donors like you are essential to our success. NEF is the one place where your donation will impact all students across the district. Our goal is to continue to work with you — parents, teachers, staff members or organizations and community members — to help give our kids amazing educational opportunities. . . whether it be in the classroom or over the computer.
Your support is essential to our success. We cannot do it without you. Your donation will make a difference in the lives of Northville students. By coming together as a community, we will get through these challenging times and hopefully be stronger on the other side.

2020/2021 Annual Staff Giving Campaign
Northville teachers give to our students in so many ways--and now we can add another.
NEF would like to thank all who contributed to NEF’s Staff Giving Campaign. Over 150 teachers and staff donated over $9,600. These funds will go directly to the Innovative Teaching Grants Program to fund projects created by their fellow teachers to benefit our students in the classroom. Thank you all for your generosity!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Northville Educational Foundation by playing in NEF’s 6th Annual Play Fore Education Golf Classic at Meadowbrook Country Club. It was a beautiful day to play golf!
Just over 100 golfers joined us on Monday, September 14th, however the foursome of Brodie Killian, Dan Janssen, Matt Battenberg and Matt Pollard prevailed, winning with 15 shots under par.
We would also like congratulate the following contest winners: Cameron MacKellar, Men’s - Longest Drive, Whitney Gesch, Women’s Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin, and Justine Jungman – Men’s Closest to the Pin. Bill Chatfield also won the 50-50 Raffle, generously donating part of his winnings back to NEF! Chris Harp won the 52 Card Raffle and went home with a wagon of liquor generously donated by Winchester Dads.
We would especially like to thank our volunteers: Julie Baylock, Kristen LaForest, Martha Michalak, Michelle Parks, Jodie Roden, Stephanie Sciara, Monica Simoncini, Laura Simons, Bryan Valentini, Shirley Vasquez and Anni Wheeler.
