Backyard Birds by dave

The following pictures were taken in our yard, or neighbors, over the past ten years. Photographed with various Nikon cameras and lenses.

Blue Jay

Genders are similar in size and plumage, and plumage does not vary throughout the year.

Blue Jays are related to Crows, Ravens and Magpies.

They sometimes will bury acorns for latter consumption.

Sharp-shinned Hawk
Somewhat rare in our area. Look like a miniature Cooper.

Woodpeckers

Pileated Woodpecker

Quite rare in our area, in 30 plus years I've seen them less than a dozen times. Sorry about the bad picture.
