Core Updates

Core A

All Feinberg department websites include an A-Z faculty list, which is an alphabetical list of all active faculty appointed in the department, as recorded in the faculty database maintained by the Faculty Affairs Office. Chairs may request an alternative faculty list limited to the names of faculty who contribute most centrally to the department’s mission areas. The creation of such a list must meet the following parameters established by Feinberg.

  • Duis tempor tellus ullamcorper dui blandit aliquet vel id ex.

Core B

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Basic Science Seminars

Lectures in Life Sciences

Monthly on Tuesday Afternoons at varying locations

The SDRC sponsors two visiting professors annually who are investigators specializing in cutaneous biology and able to address a large audience involved in biomedical laboratory research. For additional information contact Steve Anderson or Judy Brown.

Epithelial Cell Biology Initiative

Every other Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Montgomery Ward Building, 303 E. Chicago Avenue, Room #4-075

In conjunction with Tumor Invasion, Metastasis and Angiogenesis (TIMA), SDRC sponsors this multidisciplinary program which provides a forum for laboratories to present their research in a "work in progress" format to obtain feedback from a large group with wide ranging of expertise. For additional information contact Jenna Ter Molen or Kathy Green.

Dermatology Research Works in Progress Series

One Monday a Month from 8 to 10 a.m. and One Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. in varying locations

In this series scientists within the Department of Dermatology present their work and discuss current study progress, preliminary data and seek publication input from colleagues. All SDRC members are welcome. For additional information contact Han Peng.

Fibrosis and Repair Group

First Tuesday of the month from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in the Searle Medical Research Building, 320 E. Superior Street

Speakers present scientific, political and financial issues which are important in fibrosis research and provide an open forum for discussion among attendees. For additional information contact Tomoko Hayashida.

Joint Clinical and Basic Science Seminars

Clinic to Bench Series

Monthly in the Dermatology Conference Room, 676 North Saint Clair, #16-118

This series provides researchers with the opportunity to learn about the clinical impact of various dermatological diseases on patients. This brown bag lunch seminar series is lead by a Dermatologist and is open to all clinical and research faculty and staff. For additional information contact Eskedar Alem.

Dermatology Bench to Bedside Series

One Wednesday a Month from 8 to 9 a.m. in the Dermatology Lecture Hall, 676 North Saint Clair, Suite 1600

This Bench to Bedside series was initiated in 2004 as a means to showcase bench laboratory research at Northwestern and reinforce its importance to clinical medicine. Approximately 9 sessions are held annually, and have already culminated in vigorous crosstalk among clinicians and scientists, as well as several new translational collaborations. This series provides the opportunity for a scientist at Northwestern to present research to clinically-oriented academic and community-based faculty, as well as dermatology residents, students and fellows. The scientist prepares the session jointly with a dermatologist from Northwestern, so that the level of the presentation is appropriate and the relevance to dermatological medicine is clearly shown. This format cements Dermatology to the basic science departments and sends a powerful signal to residents, fellows, and medical students that the discipline of dermatology is based upon basic science and research. For additional information contact Trish Gougis.

Dermatology Grand Rounds

One or two Wednesdays a month from 9 a.m. to noon in the Dermatology Lecture Hall, 676 North Saint Clair, Suite 1600

Once or twice monthly a visiting professor is invited and presents two lectures: a clinically relevant lecture to the entire grand rounds group after seeing patients and discussing them, and a research lecture to trainees (residents, post-doctoral fellows, students) during the lunch hour. For additional information contact Trish Gougis.

Dermatology Basic Science Journal Club

Quarterly on Wednesday's from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the 676 N. Saint Clair, Ste. 1600, Dermatology Conference Rm #16-118

This monthly journal club is designed for residents and fellows to present articles to faculty for group discussion. The Journal club reviews basic science progress in the literature and focuses on critically reading literature. For additional information contact Bethanee Schlosser.

Cutaneous Biology Seminars

Chicago Cytoskeleton

Third Friday of the month from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center at 303 E. Superior Street, Hughes Auditorium

The Chicago Cytoskeleton is a forum for cytoskeletal researchers from the greater Chicago area to meet, hear some great talks, exchange ideas, and socialize. This group has also instituted an annual day long symposium held each fall. For additional information visit the Chicago Cytoskeleton website or contact Holly Goodson.

Pulmonary Epithelial Research Meeting

Monthly

Although outside of the scope of the skin-based epithelial biology, this series provides significant insight through comparisons of a similar epithelial system. For additional information contact Olga Garcia.

Department of Cell and Molecular Biology GSPD Seminars

Every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in the Ward Building, 303 E. Chicago Avenue, Room #4-075

Presented by departmental graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, these are formal seminars in which the speaker describes his or her ongoing research project. For additional information contact Barbara Jaron.

Tumor Cell Biology Seminars

Every Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center, 303 E. Superior, Baldwin Auditorium

These seminars, as part of the Cancer Center, provide a weekly forum for investigators and fellows at Northwestern as well as other institutions to present their research. Many of the seminars are directly related to cutaneous and epithelial biology. For additional information visit the Tumor Cell Biology Seminar website or contact Denise Marshall.
