UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #7

UDIS celebrated our Loy Kratong event on Thursday. UDIS encourages our students to learn about different cultures and traditions in Thailand and around the world. Moreover, in this event students participated in activities like making a Kratong that promoted students' creativity and planning skills.

K2: Becoming scientists! - In K2 on science day, we had a velocity race, made shadow puppets, inquired about floating and sinking and explored the changes of state with water. We had a very busy day, but it was so much fun! K2 loved being scientists for the day!

Y2/3: Making Krathongs

Y2/3 have been very busy with fun activities in our class. We were busy learning about various science concepts during our science day and have been preparing for the Loy Kratong festival. Our class is growing and this week we welcomed another two members to our class. Welcome IQ and Ikkyu!

Y5/6: Getting scientific - In Year 5/6 the learners enjoyed science day with fun activities. In our first activity we tried to build a strong structure as tall as possible. We then tried to keep water cool using different materials. Finally, we tried to develop ‘egg protectors’ to protect against a fall. So much fun!
Y8/9: Having a blast with science -  Science day was great fun and the teachers, as well as the students, had a blast (not literally!). Here we can see Mr.Barend handing out the science day certificates. Jeng Jeng was a participant and he is holding up the tower that his team made during one of the stem challenges.

Student success at UDIS (Y7)

Our Science Day was a huge success with Y7 learners. They worked on developing critical thinking skills, problem solving skills and team building skills to find solutions to many hypothetical issues that they were given. The children worked through each situation with great enthusiasm!

Languages at UDIS: Loy Krathong! - Learners have been getting involved with craft making skills as they prepare for Loy Krathong. Our Krathongs have been made out of banana leaves and we have focused on making some big ones too! This is such an engaging activity as our learners learn more about Thai culture at UDIS.
Partnering with Nongbua FC - We are pleased to join forces with Nongbua FC to promote balanced learning both within and outside of school. Staff were invited to Nongbua’s game on Saturday and enjoyed a 1-0 win over Prachuab. Looking forward to bringing more football to UDIS!
PTA and Board meetings - Engaging with our school community is so important at UDIS. Before the end of term we have upcoming parent representative meetings to look at the school’s strategy this year and what we are doing to meet our goals. The School Board is also meeting to discuss initiatives for next year’s budget. All parents have input into these items so please contact your parent rep to have your say.
