Chairman's Welcome

From the Boardroom

A very warm welcome to the 2018 season at SWQ Thunder FC. Welcome back to those of you who have been with us for a number of seasons and a warm welcome to all players new to the club... whatever age group you are with I am sure you will have a thoroughly enjoyable season with Thunder, and hopefully many more seasons to come.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Technical Director, Mr Albin Mikulski into the Thunder Football Family. There is a great sense of excitement about the future with the addition of Albin to our club, who comes to us with many years of experience as a football player, coach, and technical director.

I already know that starting my tenure as Chairman is made so much easier with the quality of advice and support I have already received from the rest of the SWQ Thunder FC Board. I thank you all for your continued support and for the tremendous amount of time and expertise you bring to the club.

None of what we do would be possible without the ongoing support of our Principal Sponsor Clive Berghofer Land Sales and all of our other generous sponsors.

As we begin preparations for the 2018 season, SWQ Thunder has now grown to be one of the biggest clubs in the Qld National Premier Leagues hosting a full complement of Men & Women's Senior Teams, Boys & Girls Junior NPL, and Boys & Girls SAP teams.

Along with this club growth of course comes a lot more work, responsibility and complications. As such we look forward to working with the whole of Club to make the 2018 season not only enjoyable but successful and productive.

Finally, I would like to wish all members of the Club, both new and not so new, an enjoyable and successful time with the SWQ Thunder FC Football Family and remind all those people involved in our junior setup that our emphasis is on development.

Good luck to all teams for the season and let’s do the club proud.

Wade Eiser

Good Luck, Play Fair, Win

Mr Albin Mikulski - Technical Director

Introducing

Albin Mikulski

Hi everyone, my name is Albin Mikulski your new Technical Director. I am a UEFA PRO Licensed coach with over 30 years of professional football experience. A little background on me, I have worked with the biggest clubs in Poland and Australia. As a player I represented Poland at an International level and have over 260 caps in the Polish top league scoring over 60 goals, winning Polish Champions in 1979 earning a spot in UEFA championships, being consistently ranked as a top striker between 78-86. Thanks to my successful playing career my coaching transition was a smooth one. As a coach l won the Polish Cup in 2001 earning UEFA Cup participation for the 2001-2002 season as well as several other coaching achievements and awards over the years. I also hold a Master of Sports degree from AWF – Akademia Wychowania Fizicznego, Katowice hence I’ve had a career as a Football Lecturer with various sports collages like ACPE – Australian Collage of Physical Education. In Poland a strategist for SMS Szkola Mistrzostwa Sportowego, youth football academy for the gifted in Krakow, Poland, working with biggest Polish talents. Most recently working with Knox Grammar school in Sydney and as a coach and technical director with Fraser Park FC.

I see much potential and promise with the Thunder organization. It’s a united community with strong leaders. I have joined you with one goal in mind and that is success. Our success will be achieved at various levels; improving our overall individual performance to a top professional level, adopting professional coaching structures at all levels of the club, strengthening our involvement and participation with federations both state and AFF, evolving our Toowoomba community involvement, and last but not least enhancing an already strong club league position and SWQ Thunder brand within our complete Football ecosystem. Our plan includes both short term goals on which we’ve already started to execute on from day one and long term strategy spanning multiple years for the club.

I wish to collaborate with each and every one of you, share my vision for success, and present my football philosophy. I believe that with the right strategy, trust and strong execution we will succeed.

Albin Mikulski

Luke Lister - National Teams Challenge

Luke Lister was successful in the NTC Trials held at the end of the season for the U15 Queensland Boys. After undergoing a rigorous training/trialling selection process that included 5 nights a week training in Brisbane over 6 weeks, Luke was selected in the U15 Queensland team that attended the National Teams Challenge.

The National Teams Challenge 2017 was held during October in Canberra at The Australian Institute of Sport. Teams travelled from every state to compete and be assessed by the FFA U17 Australian selectors.

Luke played in all 10 games, scoring 2 goals and taking a playmaking role with a few assists as well. Luke received encouraging feedback from his QLD coaches and the FFA selectors and is eager to bring their advice back to the SWQ Thunder this coming season. Luke also managed to come home with a broken toe but we hope to see him back on the park and training for pre season.

Congratulations to Luke from all at SWQ Thunder FC for your commitment to the game, the achievements you continue to secure and all the possibilities still ahead of you.

Casey Evans, Holly Littlejohn, Maddie Teakle & Halle Nielsen - High Performance Training

SWQ Thunder girls included in High Performance Training

SWQ Thunder FC currently have 4 players training in Brisbane twice a week with other WNPL girls with an eye to selection for Queensland U/14 and U/15 girl’s teams.

Casey Evans (U15 – represented QLD U/14 in 2017), Holly Littlejohn and Maddison Teakle (U/14) and Halle Nielsen (U/13) have been rewarded for their efforts and performances throughout 2017 on both the playing and training fields. The girls are training under the watchful eyes of their respective Queensland Head and Assistant Coaches along with approximately 30-40 other players from the WNPL.

The girls still have a long process to go through, as the coaches will also be looking at girls from North Queensland, and then when the 2018 season starts the coaches again cast their eye over all players in the WNPL.

Congratulations Casey, Holly, Maddie & Halle! SWQ Thunder FC are proud of your achievements and your success in being selected in the High Performance Training.

Sponsorship Opportunities

SWQ Thunder FC would like to offer you (or your business) the opportunity to partner with us. As the club grows we have several sponsorship packages for your consideration. Becoming a SWQ Thunder FC partner and sponsor creates a special relationship between our sponsors, the club, the community and our athletes. Club Volunteer Roles

"NO ONE can do EVERYTHING. . . . but EVERYONE can do SOMETHING"

During the SWQ Thunder FC season there are numerous volunteer roles that assist with the smooth running of the club! Thunder has been fortunate across the years to have a fantastic community of parents who willingly give their time to the club in various ways - and we can't thank you all enough!

Some of the volunteer roles include:

  • gate duty (home games only)
  • washing team jersey's (unfortunately a weekly duty! BUT shared among 16 families - well, many hands really do make light work)
  • Field set up/pack up (home games only)

Your team manager will be requesting your assistance during the season with various jobs - please be ready to volunteer for the betterment of the club.

We look forward to having your help during the 2018 season!

All selection correspondence has now been delivered. We would like to thank everyone for their patience with the process.

This years selections were unfortunately impacted by Football Queensland implementing new policies during our process, which affected the roll out of communication.

Further information regarding the FQ policies will be forthcoming at our compulsory Orientation Evening.

Farewell, Jordie

SWQ Thunder FC wishes Jordie Franke, our 2017 Women's Captain, all the very best in her future endeavours.

Jordie has taken an opportunity to move to Brisbane and with great sadness has had to leave the club. We thank Jordie for her many years of service to Thunder as a player, coach and loyal club supporter.

Good Luck Jordie, we will miss having you as a valued member of SWQ Thunder FC but are excited for your new adventures!

Thunder Talk

  • Rumour has it that one of our Senior Men's players from 2017 has taken an overseas opportunity to further his football career! Thunder wishes him all the best in his endeavours!
  • Thunder has introduced a cheeky new policy for the 2018 season. The policy is named the "No Whinge" Policy. The cornerstone of the No Whinge Policy is "if you are not prepared to be a part of the solution, then you forfeit the right to complain".(Exceptions to this rule would be a) whinging about the travel commitments midway through the season, and b) whinging about the cold, anytime, anywhere!) We look forward to having you all become a part of the solution!!
  • Thunder Express wants to send a huge Thank You out to all of our Thunder Family for participating in our Call to Action and completing the survey for the much needed upgrade of facilities at Captain Cook Ovals. Thunder is working in conjunction with the TRC to have this project completed. If you haven't filled out the survey yet click here to have your say!
  • Our management committee welcomes any ideas or suggestions in fundraising and club improvements. Please contact community@swqthunder.com with any innovations, ideas or promotions.
  • I'm a bit excited to report the sighting of a former Thunder player who is back in Toowoomba from his impressive stint in Brazil. I'm told that he was present at the Thunder Men's training - we would love to see him on the field for the 2018 season but I think it's going to be hard to keep our talented SWQ Thunder alumni in our region. Welcome Back!
