Artist Statement

In a sense, I want to strive for my work to basically function as a way to distract or escape, even momentarily, from daily inhibitors or struggles in life. The aspects of my field that I find most appealing and important is that there are different results and areas that it’s involved in such as films and video games along with the multitude of genres or types for both. The relationship with the audience or customers is at its minimum supplier (i.e. me) and receiver (i.e. audience). I recognize and understand their needs and responses because I had and currently still need time away from the real world. My process and attitude that I bring to my work is that I want people to experience it more than just a single take, even if they don’t get straight off the bat and as for original characters, I want the audience to relate to all of them, even the villains. My fundamental guiding principles are to or at least try to put in much heart in all components equally and that the result would not exactly look like what I initially envisioned at the beginning. What inspires me are the different forms that art comes in (video games, paintings, films, music, animated television shows, etc.) and to be better at doing something than each previous day.

Major Pieces

Seluc

The character design of Seluc began by doing lots of preliminary sketches and studies. I then refined those sketches and created a character sheet that explained the character traits, height, color scheme, and a simple walk cycle of the creature created. From there, I made a 3D model of Seluc using ZBrush. And finally, I created a 2D platformer game using Unity with Seluc collecting tokens in its environment.

Knight's Room

The idea behind this project was to complete a 3D modeled environment inspired by a time and place in history. I chose to create a dwelling for a medieval knight. I chose a knight since they're one of my favorite warriors. I found influence from the game For Honor, especially for the style of the swords and shield, which is probably my favorite element of the piece.

Maximum Fear

The video's objective was to create something scary to incite fear using Max, a pre-rigged character and Maya. Here, a hunched-over figure chases another after being approached too close while bent over.

The Fire Within

For this piece, I created a title sequence for the story The Fire Within by Chris d'Lacey. The dragon was 3D modeled in Maya, and the fire and text were animated using Adobe After Effects. I chose the song Through the Fire and Flames by DragonForce since it seemed like the obvious choice as both titles have fire in them, and the band's name has "dragon" in it.

The Ballad of Cthulhu

This Stop motion animation was created by George Leach, Walt Riley, and myself. The animation shows a group of wizards and monsters using the power of music to summon Cthulhu from the depths of the water. My main contribution was building the environment and modeling the character Cthulhu.
