Home Together: A Community-wide creativity contest for Boulder County during COVID-19
Submissions are due May 30th. Community unveiling in June (details to follow).

Finally, we had a nice day after the snow... Finding ways to get out of the house safely can be a challenge. This was a fun project we did together using both of our artistic and creative minds. Bonding and sharing ideas was my favorite part.
I am in love with how this turned out, but most importantly: I am in love with the time we spent together. ❤️
This recipe is important because it makes me feel good and my family is happy together. I have so much fun making it and eating it with my family!!
I am an 8 year old from Columbine Elementary. I am sometimes at home at my Dads house and sometimes at mom’s house with our quaranteam. We have enjoyed time together as we never would have had this time under normal circumstances. I worry about the effects on other families.” - Demetri K.
I call this Boulder Spring; it is the promise of beauty and better things to come.
My name is Bon and I live in the Aspen Grove apts. I have friends in the complex, but as we are social distancing, we only talk from our own properties. I have a housemate, but she is much younger and works a lot. The only real thing we have in common is our species and gender. My art helps me get through much of the loneliness. Howling at 8 pm has added a wonderful new dimension of socializing from a distance. I do miss baseball and the Y.
This piece is called "Monkey Mind" and it represents how I have been feeling. The neurographic images on the left are the Virus. The right is images from my time outside and my way to combat the left side from getting too big. The virus imagery is left small on purpose to keep it from becoming overwhelming.
I am "home together" with my two teenage daughters, our dog and our cat. I am a high school art teacher so now virtually teaching art. Being "home together" has been mostly good; we all miss our friends, our social interactions and being at school but are doing our part to stomp out the virus.
- Adriana P.
More neighbors are out walking or bike riding everywhere. As a watercolor painter, I decided it would be a fun project to adorn my corner lot Blue Spruce tree with paintings, each one decorated with a quote from the various wisdom traditions of the world, famous authors and poets, etc. The project is ongoing....I add a new quote and/or painting every day or two! There are about 25 of these on the tree at this point, though I have to take them down when it snows and then put 'em back up.
A longtime Boulder County resident and artist now living in Lafayette with my husband, Bob. We miss our son and his family down in Arvada a lot...but we are gardening, cooking, and praying, and enjoying the spring time as best we can. I'm putting in a lot of time in my painting studio and doing street art projects to make my neighbors smile! - Honora Wolfe
“A few weeks ago, Todd Walsh, owner of Market Real Estate (here in Boulder, CO) reached out wanting to do something big to uplift and unite our community, and sent over pictures of a blank wall. Together we decided on the phrase We Are All In This Together, and then he set me free to follow my own artistic vision (best client ever). My favorite part is the children literally climbing the walls as they play (as the mother of two elementary school aged children, I can really relate to this one). I chose a vibrant color palette to uplift and inspire hope, and wanted to include several people doing what we’re all doing while staying home (reading, online learning, comforting one another through our collective uncertainty)
My family is (of course) home during these strange times. It has certainly been challenging to have my elementary school aged kids with us 24/7, while my husband and I also try to work. No matter how grateful I am to have this extra time with them, it has dramatically affected my career. This said, I’m well aware of the privileged position from where I sit. We have a good roof over our heads and food to eat--many are not so fortunate right now. And I am getting to spend time with my family in a way I never would have been able to in ‘regular’ times--I’m looking for the silver linings wherever I can.”
I wanted to capture the positive sides of what the world looked like during the corona times.
I'm Anupriya and I'm 9 years old. I am a 4th grade student at Flagstaff Chartered Academy. My hobbies including drawing, reading and playing the keyboard. I believe staying home together helped us spend quality time together, cooking together, playing with my little brother. We find ways to keep ourselves entertained.
Today, we mused about how long it would take for the slime to flow to a specific point. So, we decided to make another batch and hold a race. We had fun documenting this experience, and we hope you enjoy watching it. It feels kind of strange to spend a Sunday morning watching slime flow, but it’s a perfect metaphor for how our lives have been affected through this coronavirus crisis. By slowing down long enough to observe the subtle movements of everything around us, we overcome boredom, practice presence, and discover the stunning complexity of what appears to be very simple. I am grateful for the lessons of this time. - Darcy K
“A little backyard garden was just the project to get my husband and me out of the house after weeks of self-isolating. It felt great to dig in the earth, feel the sun on my winter-hidden skin, and go to bed each night with sore muscles. Our neighbor pitched in with his saw while his teenage son pushed wheelbarrow loads of dirt to fill in our plot. Shared work will lead to a shared bounty, and I’m excited for the harvesting to begin!
My husband and I built our Louisville home over 30 years ago and raised our two sons here. Now, it’s just us and our two husky dogs! Most of the back yard is dog territory, so carving out a little space for my own garden was a dream. The process of planning and creating it was a project we really enjoyed doing together. We call it our Victory Garden, and we plan to keep it going for years to come.” -

April 18, 2020: residents of Golden West Senior Living watch from the 11th floor deck for the Front Range Fly-over to honor Essential Workers. We keep our social distance and wear our masks. Our lives are changed, but we are relatively safe.
I have lived at Golden West for 2 years, happy in my apartment, enjoying the activities and services here. But now, all in-person activities are suspended, meals are delivered to our rooms, and we are asked to wear masks and keep at least 6 feet apart in public areas. However, the in-house TV channel offers exercise, meditation, games, and health tips. I have my groceries delivered, and do not expect to return to much public life until there is a COVID-19 vaccine. I sew reusable masks for neighbors, friends, and family, and keep in touch with “Age Well” Center craft groups by Zoom.” - Judith K.
