Ein Jahr ist es her, dass wir in der neuen Heimat Fuß gefasst haben. Am 11. April 2018 ist Rico aus dem Flugzeug gestiegen und machte sich auf den Weg. Seither ist viel passiert: neue Jobs, neue Wohnung, neue Menschen. Und dennoch ist alles so, wie es immer war. Es fühlt sich weiterhin richtig an, und am Ende ist es genau das, was zählt.
It's been a year since Rico stepped out of the aircraft and into our new lives. It was the 11th of April 2018. Ever since then things have changed: new job, new appartment, new people. But still it feels like the right thing to do. And in the end thats what it is all about.
Als wir uns vor einem Jahr verabschiedet haben, wurden wir unter anderem mit einem Gutschein für die Harbour Air ausgestattet. Dort hat man sich voll und ganz auf den Linienverkehr per Wasserflugzeug spezialisiert und chauffiert natürlich auch eine große handvoll Touristen durch die Luft. Wir haben uns nun endlich das Erlebnis Wasserflugzeug gegönnt. Von Vancouver geht es nach Victoria, in die Hauptstand der Provinz British Columbia.
When we said goodbye to our friends and colleagues back in Germany we were equiped with several Gift Cards for Harbour Air. At Harbour Air they provide the best service in flying people from A to B in their Seaplanes. Finally we booked ourselves an adventure and will fly from Vancouver to Victoria, Capital of B. C.
In the Air
Ja, es ist laut. Und es ist eng. Zwei Sitzreihen vor uns sitzt der Pilot. Wenn man Glück hat, sitzt der sogar direkt neben einem und man selbst demzufolge direkt im Cockpit. Wow! Start und Landung sind überraschend geschmeidig. Wir heben in Vancouver ab, passieren für knapp 30 Minuten die Strait of Georgia und überfliegen die Salt Spring Islands, um sicher in Victoria zu landen. Direkt im Inner Harbour, quasi vor dem bekannten Fairmont-Hotel The Emrpess.
Yes, it is noisy. And it is cozy. Just two seats in front of us: the pilot. When you get lucky you might even sit right next to him inside the cockpit. Wow! Take-off and landing are surprisingly soft. And just 30 Minutes after our departure in Vancouver, a crossing of the Strait of Georgia and the Salt Springs we arrive in Victoria. In the Inner Harbour, almost right in front of the well known The Empress.
Victoria, Capital of British Columbia
Die Hauptstadt der Provinz British Columbia beeindruckt. Weniger durch Prunk und Protz, als vielmehr durch Gemütlichkeit. Irgendwie wirkt die Stadt so, als hätte sie sich für eine Parade herausgeputzt: den Alltag. Die zahlreichen Backsteinbauten in Downtown sind sauber und einzigartig. Auch die Geschäfte sind irgendwie anders. Eine hippe Stadt, könnte man sagen.
The Capital of B. C. makes an impression. Not by being posh or by showing-off, but rather coziness. It seems as if the city prepares for a parade which is everyday life. The countless brick houses in Downtown are clean an unique. And so are the shops. I would even say it is a hip city.

Den Weg zurück finden wir nicht über die Luft, sondern zu Wasser. Zwischen Vancouver und Victoria fährt ein Katamaran der V2V Vacations, der Passagiere binnen drei Stunden von der einen in die andere Stadt bringt. Kein günstiges Vergnügen, aber ein beeindruckendes. Zumal es unterwegs noch eine Überraschung gab: ein Orka, der gemütlich seine Runden drehte.
We find our way back to Vancouver not in the sky but rather on the sea. Vancouver and Victoria are connected by V2V Vacations transferring passengers within three hours from one place to the other.
