Day 7 Carson city

The forecast called for rain that day and we were burnt out. We made the quick 15 mile trip through some light rain up to Carson City and found a camping/outdoors store. We had a list of things we had come up with that we wanted for the rest of the trip. While shopping, it started raining heavily. We repacked all of our gear under the shelter in front of the store and then worked on finding a buffet nearby so that we could make up for all of the lost energy from the day before. We chose the Indian Restaurant that happened to be sharing a parking lot with the camping store.

We circled the restaurant looking for a good dry place to park our bikes so that we could see them too. While looking for a spot, the owner opened the door and said we could bring them inside. She showed us to a side door and we pushed our bikes into a side hallway that no one had access to. She wanted us to not worry about while we ate.

We passed time slowly eating from the buffet until we decided we couldn’t eat anymore. While checking out, the owner asked about our bike trip. She then told us that if we came back for dinner, she would give us meals for free. Yet another example of generosity received on this trip.

We had to figure out a place to stay and camping wasn’t really that much option because it was so wet and cold, the opposite of what we had expected in Nevada. We eventually made contact with the Methodist church and they offered to host us. We went to their office, picked up a key to the church, and put our things in a Sunday school room. We were excited just to have a floor to sleep on.

We went to the local bike shop and they were able to help us out with a few problems we were having as well as give us advice on how to handle the next section of or trip, route 50, the longest road in the US. We also napped, went grocery shopping, and of course went back to the Indian restaurant for a wonderful dinner.

A long rest was good after a huge day on our bikes the day before and some more intense journeys as we cross the very empty badlands of Nevada.
