Content Info For The Week

Math (Carver, Beasley, and Meeks):

Students will start off with a review and quiz over Scientific Notation since we are finishing up unit 2. Students will then complete their performance task over this unit and move into completing their study guide for unit 2 to prepare them for their unit test next week.

Algebra I (Meeks

On Monday, scholars will watch a movie to compare the book that we read during flex time to the movie. The rest of the week will be for us to prepare for the 8th grade test that will be administered next week on the 9th and 10th. This assessment will cover the 8th grade standards that the students have mastered for the year thus far. Starting the week of November 15th, we will tackle Algebra one standards.

Read 180 (Styron and Barker):

This week students in R180 will plan, organize, and write an argument paragraph with a claim, supporting details, and a conclusion. Students will also complete the WS 8 interim vocab assessment and begin/complete the WS 8 interim assessment. Additionally, they will summarize the topic and important details of a text, avoiding personal judgments, as well as use text evidence accurately when explaining the meaning of a text.

ELA (MacArthur and Lee):

MacArthur: This week, we will finish up our discussion on Edgar Allan Poe's The Tell-Tale Heart as students decided what the punishment of the Narrator should be. Students will go through a series of stations to determine what kind of verdict a jury would issue for the Narrator, and whether or not he is qualified for an insanity plea. This will lead us into our next performance task where students will create an argumentative essay to prove whether he was guilty or not.

This week in Mrs. Lee's class, students will continue their examination of suspense, tension, and other narrative elements in Unit #2. We will be taking a close look at one of Edgar Allan Poe's most famous works, The Tell-Tale Heart. Students will complete Performance Task #2 in which they explain how the author develops suspense and tension in the text.

9th Grade Lit (Lee):

This week, our GSU Practicum I student, Mr. Smith, will be teaching his full unit! We will review the components of an argument, and discuss effective ways to support an argument using evidence from a variety of texts. At the end of the week, students will write a constructed response supporting a claim with evidence from multiple texts that they will research.

Science (Winkworth and Herndon):

The central focus of this learning segment is to develop the understanding of classifying matter based on its chemical and physical properties. Chemical Properties refer to a substance’s ability to react with water or oxygen, its pH level, combustibility, and toxicity. There are two types of Physical properties, quantitative, and qualitative. Quantitative Properties are directly measured properties like mass, volume, density, melting point, and boiling point. Qualitative Properties are properties described with words associated with a physical characteristic like color, odor, luster, texture, ductile (made into wires), malleable (pounded flat), taste, viscosity, conductibility, hardness, solubility (dissolves in water), and state of matter.

Social Studies (MacArthur and Collier):

Last week the Georgia Studies classes finished up their examination of the Revolutionary War Era. This week we will be moving onto our next unit of study, the Westward Expansion of Georgia!

Look what we have been up to!
