Highlighted Opportunities
- North Carolina Biotechnology Center Flash Grants, April 2019: The Flash Grant program is open to digital, precision and data-driven life science technologies. Flash Grants provide up to $24,000 to support short, sharply-focused research projects that address one or both NCBC program goals: 1) to obtain crucial proof-of-concept or feasibility testing data necessary to suggest the disruptive potential of a life science technology and/or 2) to conduct the final experiment(s) needed to advance a basic life science research program into the translational research phase of development.
- NSF Cyberinfrastructure for Sustained Scientific Innovation, April 8: The National Science Foundation's Cyberinfrastructure for Sustained Scientific Innovation (CSSI) umbrella program seeks to enable funding opportunities that are flexible and responsive to the evolving and emerging needs in cyberinfrastructure. This program continues the CSSI program by removing the distinction between software and data elements/framework implementations and instead emphasizing integrated cyberinfrastructure services, quantitative metrics with targets for delivery and usage of these services, and community creation.
- Defense University Research Instrumentation Program, May 17: The Department of Defense announces the Fiscal Year 2020 Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP). DURIP is designed to improve the capabilities of accredited U.S. institutions of higher education to conduct research and to educate scientists and engineers in areas important to national defense by providing funds for the acquisition of research equipment or instrumentation.
- Office of Naval Research Manufacturing Engineering Education Program, June 20: The purpose of this program is to establish new or to enhance existing programs to better position the current and next-generation manufacturing workforce to produce military systems and components that assure technological superiority for the DoD. Interested parties should focus programs on manufacturing education to support one or more distinct manufacturing technologies of DoD interest, possibly including: manufacturing of lightweight structures, systems and materials; robotics for manufacturing; manufacturing to exploit nanotechnology; manufacturing of components and systems for power generation, storage, or distribution; or manufacturing of multi-functional electronics and/or optical devices.
- American Heart Association Data Grants, July 30: The AHA Institute for Precision Cardiovascular Medicine is accepting applications from researchers for Data Grant Portfolio 4.0. Conduct and explore modern experimental techniques in all fields coupled with robust data sources to make significant advances in understanding and/or deployment of precision health and precision medicine practices. Data source examples include but are not limited to images, electronic health records, genetics and omic-related data, community engagement data (including social determinants of health), wearable devices, smartphone and other sensor related technology. Investigators at all career levels and across all disciplines are eligible to apply.
- Department of Defense Multiple Sclerosis Research Program, TBA: Fiscal Year 2019 Defense Appropriation provides $6 million to the Department of Defense Multiple Sclerosis Research Program to support pioneering concepts and high-impact research that are relevant to the prevention, etiology, pathogenesis, assessment, and treatment of multiple sclerosis to ultimately lessen its personal and societal impact.
