Artist statement

My parents immigrated to the United States in 2001 from Argentina. Like the many Latino immigrants in the United States my parents have jobs in the food and cleaning service industries. My parents began working long hours at small delis to provide for my brother and I, our entire lives. They have taken cleaning and handy jobs to make extra cash to make ends meet. My parents came here with nothing and work vigorously to give my brother and I, every opportunity to build a successful and happy life.

My family never shied away from exposing us to our latin culture even as they worked hard to build I life for my brother and I. My family never misses a chance to embrace our beautiful mix of lands and languages.

My parents expanded our family to include into my tía, tío, and primos. Over the years my family grew and separated, but always remained tightly bonded. Since we are each other’s only family in the United States, the love between us is the most valuable thing we have.

"Family isn't defined only by last names or by blood; it's defined by commitment and by love. It means showing up when they need it most. It means having each other's backs. It means choosing to love each other even on those days when you struggle to like each other. It means never giving up on each other!" — Dave Willis
