Art through the process

Adam Soyring has been teaching Art at North High for 3 years. Originally from Michigan, and studying art at the Kansas City Art institute.

“I’m going through a transitional period, I did oil painting and have shifted to salvage sculpture. Finding junk and repurposing it,” said Soyring.

His latest work is repurposing a manikin, “It was in front of me, & seemed like the thing to do at the time, there isn’t a thought process or specific idea. That goes for a lot of my work,” said Soyring.

Taking suggestions from students of what to add on, such as the lobster claw & horns, “It’s not about the result but the process,” said Soyring.

“Finding things to add, it comes from observing things around me,” the manikin now a functioning speaker, Soyring puts on 2pac ‘Old school’.
