We spent the last few hours exploring the last of Lucca and climbing one of the towers for 360 deg views of the city. A quick coffee at the bar (and they did serve us a cappacino after 10am) before heading to the station to take us via Pisa to San Miniato. We walked the final 4km to the medieval town perched high on a hill. Our official start of the Via Francigena way.
We will be spending the next 6 days walking a section of the Via Francigena Way from San Miniato to Siena. This is a relatively small section when the real pilgrim journey commenced in Canterbury, England and finished in Rome! Or even on to Jerusalem!
After exploring the little township, we happened upon a very classy restaurant that looked very tempting, so we asked our Hotel reception to book us in, luckily securing the last table in the place.
It was a delight to the senses and our best ever meal in a very long time! A great way to start this next lttle adventure!
