3 Ways to Boost Confidence McMillin center for sport psychology

Set moderately difficult goals.

Moderately difficult goals are challenging yet attainable. They push you in accordance with your current talent/ability level. For example, a novice basketball player may set a goal of making 2 consecutive free throws whereas a professional basketball player may strive to make 50.

Imagine performing well.

Seeing is believing. When you mentally represent what you wish to accomplish, it is more likely that you will do it. This happens because your are channeling your cognitive resources to the task at hand instead of focusing on irrelevant stimuli.

Prepare to compete.

Make sure that your Head, Body & Heart (HBH) are ready prior to the start of your match, game, or event. Preparation in advance of a performance ensures that you can move forward with confidence.
