Made to Order Ramen Bar by Jamison Davis

This past Friday, November 1st, our very own Worthington Kilbourne High School opened up a make-your-own ramen bar! Over the past couple of years, we've expanded our menu beyond the basic "high school cafeteria food": sushi and smoothies last year, anyone? There was much buzz around it once the news got out, so I decided to try it for myself.

Every bowl starts with the ramen noodles and broth, obviously, and you can add your choice of meat (chicken or beef) and vegetables (cucumbers, carrots, peppers, etc.). It also is the same price as a normal school lunch, compared to the considerably higher price of the sushi from last year, which was a plus.

Considering all of the excitement surrounding the ramen bar, I had high hopes for how this was going to turn out, and it lived up to those expectations for the most part. There were a lot of options to choose from to really make each bowl your own and it had great flavor. Personally, I would've liked to see the noodles cooked a little longer, but it didn't take away from the bowl itself.

Overall, I would give the ramen bar a strong nine out of ten stars. The noodles were a little saddening, but the whole experience itself was amazing. The price also makes me happy: unlike the $7 sushi we used to have, it's the price of a regular lunch, which I think will draw more students to try it, rather than have it become a luxury. I'm glad Kilbourne added this to our lunch menu, and I'm excited to see it come back regularly!
