Proposal argument: Parking at UF - Kevin Sang

What is the problem?

We have a serious parking issue on campus

What is the causation?

  • Parking Price
  • Lack of Regulation
  • Insufficient Parking Space (the major reason)

Price?

Have you realized the problem yet?

Demand vs. Supply

What is it ?

  • It concludes that in a competitive market, the unit price for a particular good, or other traded item such as labor or liquid financial assets, will vary until it settles at a point where the quantity demanded will equal the quantity supplied resulting in an economic equilibrium for price and quantity transacted.

So What?

  • Raise parking price to a fair point where the existed parking space can satisfy just enough demands
  • Build more parking garages as promised. (e.g. a six-story parking garage at McCarty Drive )

Why?

  • A piratical means to cut down the excessive demands on parking
  • *With the aid of increased revenue, UF will be able to build more garages
  • This will be a virtuous circle - With the extra supply (parking place), not only is the parking shortage solved, but the permit price will be decreased and the revenue will be increased continually as well.

Lack of Regulation vs. Cheating

  • Systematically: Applying a decal for a friend
  • Physically: Parking on decal-requested area before the restriction lifted

So What?

  1. A cumulative fine system
  2. In-vehicle meters / "Mini Pass"

Why?

  • Collect the parking revenue in advance and consequently utilize it to either build more garages or earn interest on unused balance.
  • Perfectly matched with the performance-based parking price (adjustable price) system
  • Easily accessed by administrators for statistical analysis and identity confirmation
