Dominican Republic Service trip 2017

Overview of the Trip

In February of 2017 a group of Sandwich High School students traveled to Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic. Here we went to an environmental school focusing on helping to improve the environmental state of the country. We participated in planting trees and other various plants. We also interacted and got to know some of the students at the school.

Every afternoon we would do activities with them and play many games. We taught them to play a game called gator ball that we learned in gym and they loved playing it with us. Each night we would have dinner with them and try lots of different foods. It was an incredible learning experience for everyone on the trip.

A day of planting.

On the first day of the trip we got to explore Santo Domingo which is the historical capital of the Dominican Republic. We walked around and saw many buildings and restaurants. We had the chance to see how the people live and get around. There are many differences between things here and there that I observed in the city of Santo Domingo. It was incredible to be exposed to their culture.
