Who are we?

The Bridal Consultant was formed in 2004 and was one of the original UK based companies to offer couples a bespoke planning service for those wanting to get married abroad

From one person in a home office we’ve now grown into a team of 3 working in our beautiful offices in the gorgeous historic city of Chester.

We focus on wedding quality over quantity, by planning a manageable amount of weddings each year we can give each couple the time and attention they deserve.

We appreciate that when you get married abroad there is a lot of trust involved. A lot of our couples visit their venue beforehand but we also appreciate that due to costs and busy diaries this is not always possible, so we are your eyes and ears. We have seen and know the venues so we can advise on what will work and more importantly what won't.

We can come up with ideas and suggestions as to what will work and if you’re having a stressful day and the worrying is getting out of hand we are only ever a phone call or email away!

The idea initially came to me from a mix of my love of travel and planning my own destination wedding with a less than competent wedding planner. Albeit I was getting married in Scotland and living in England the stresses were still the same. Not being able to get in contact with our wedding planner (he went on a ‘round the world trip’ for 3 months just before my wedding) led to lots of unnecessary worry and stress in the run up to the wedding. In the end we had the perfect day (even though it rained all day), and due to that experience I founded The Bridal Consultant.

My earlier 20’s were spent travelling Southern America and the Caribbean, during this time I witnessed the conveyor belt style weddings and this helped me to define the concept of The Bridal Consultant and decide which type of weddings I did, and more importantly didn’t want to plan.

I decided to create a company that would offer excellent communication first and foremost and be completely honest, for example we have no hidden fees, no small print in our contract, no unfair practices and will be as flexible as possible within the realms of the venue you are working with as we know things don’t always go to plan when it comes to weddings!

We focus on building strong relationships with all of our partners and vendors and this is really our key focus.

When we consider a new venue or visit a new destination I don’t only think of it from my point of view but I also consider what our clients want and desire.

I’m proud of the way the Bridal Consultant has grown and is now one of the leading wedding planning agencies in the UK offering bespoke destination weddings.Due to the quality of our weddings our eputation has grown with us and first and foremost is our client experience. Awards are lovely but more importantly to us is the feedback from our couples after the big day!

I have been a part of The Bridal Consultant team for over 4 years and in this time have gained lots of knowledge and experience in planning beautiful overseas weddings! To me, my job is a chance to explore my creative side and give my couples a wedding planning experience that is as stress free and most importantly as enjoyable as possible!

I love the excitement surrounding my role and really enjoy discussing new ideas and talking weddings. I also take some time aside to write blogs to inspire all of you brides to be.

When I’m not planning weddings, I love planning trips my own trips, seeing new places! Whether this be visiting new cities, weekends away or holidays abroad!

The Office

4 years ago we moved to larger premises in Chester. This is in a convenient location where our clients can visit us, usually to discuss their initial ideas or their final details. Chester is also a gorgeous city to explore and with most of our couples coming from far and wide, it’s nice to tie a visit in with us with a weekend exploring Chester.

What do we do

We are specialists in planning weddings abroad, we work with each couple to create a unique wedding abroad. In most locations we start with a basic package to cover all the necessary costs and then tailor make from there. In other locations we’ve carefully devised sample packages to include all you would need and more.

Why do we use packages?

Whilst we’re not a traditional ‘package’ company we do appreciate that our customers, no matter what budget, need a starting point when it comes to how much things will cost, this is where our basic package brochure comes in handy. From there our couples tailor and tweak to their hearts desire to create a completely unique and bespoke wedding day. So regardless of where we start, each wedding we plan is unique to you and tailored to your specific requests.

Who are our clients?

Our clients tend to be very busy, with little time to research their perfect day. They work with us to ensure that their wedding is just as special as if it were at home in the UK with the same attention to detail.

There are also certain logistics to consider and a few things that would work at home that wouldn’t work abroad and we advise on each aspect of the day to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

The type of weddings we love to plan

Our typical wedding has more than 25 guests. However, we do sometimes plan weddings with fewer guests. We specialise in weddings with receptions so we don’t plan weddings without receptions I’m afraid.

We plan weddings all over the Mediterranean: Santorini, Zante, Rhodes and Crete in Greece, Italy, Spain, Ibiza, Croatia, Malta and we recently launched Portugal. We work with a handpicked selection of venues for each of our destinations so we can get to know each venue we work with well and can discuss and recommend them with confidence.

I’m afraid we don’t currently offer a tailored venue search, but watch this space, we have lots of exciting plans being announced soon!

How the planning works

First we encourage you to look at our website to get an idea of the weddings we have previously planned and read the real life wedding stories that our couples have so generously spent time doing to share their experience with you. If you like what you see please call or email us and we'll ask you some detailed questions about your plans.

Once you have decided on a venue the most important thing is to secure a date as some locations book up to 2 years in advance! You’re then all set to book your travel, look for the perfect dress and start collecting ideas about your wedding.

The interim planning takes place next. This is where we look at your plans in detail; menus, flowers, entertainment, hair and makeup etc. By the end of this stage you'll have a clear idea the costs and how the day will flow, the final planning then takes place closer the wedding!

Ah, and don’t forget the all important legal work. We’ll guide you step by step through this process with our in-house legal team! Finally, on the day our team will be there to guide & co-ordinate to perfection.

Small Island Politics and Law Changes

Another important consideration when you are planning a wedding abroad is that there are bound to be a certain amount of politics that come into play with some vendors not working well alongside each other, unfortunately it’s inevitable. We know who works best together and who ‘not to use’. The last thing you want is tension on your wedding day that you cannot put your finger on but you can feel is there!

With laws changing all the time and tax laws in Europe especially becoming very rigid and uncompromising it’s important that each supplier used is registered and paying the relevant taxes. We ensure all of our suppliers are vetted, have the relevant paperwork and more importantly are reliable and will turn up on your wedding day, come hell or high water!

It’s the boring stuff but incredibly necessary when it comes to planning a wedding abroad when you can't physically see what’s happening whilst at home!

What Happens when things DON't go to plan?

Well, this is where we really shine. There are things which are out of everyone’s control for example, the weather! In each case we work with our couples to find resolution to any issue, we’ve been known to spend a full day finding an alternative venue if it looks like the weather means plan A is no longer possible! Whilst 99.9% of our weddings go seamlessly without any hiccups we’re always on full alert with plan B for when it’s needed!

So what's right for you?

All of our weddings are tailor made, regardless of budget. However, because we only plan a select number of weddings each year we do have specific types of weddings we plan!

Below we explain the Quality, Luxury and VIP Experience, 3 types of weddings to cover different price points.

We have venues to suit all budgets in each destination. You will be asked for your budget and party size when you enquire, this is so we can recommend the most suitable venues which match your requirements.

The Quality Experience

A stunning range of venues that offer great value for money. These venues have been specifically chosen for those wishing to stick to a budget, have a beautiful wedding day and still be in full control of your wedding plans

Budgets are in the region of £6k to £10k for 50 people

The Luxury Experience

Our most popular service, a range of venues and destinations that offer that extra bit of exclusivity and privacy for your wedding day. These venues tend to be in exclusive areas or destinations, with focus on quality and a luxury experience

Here budgets start from £10k for 50 people

The VIP Experience

This is our ultimate hand holding service with our most senior planner, Lisa, with 14 years experience of planning weddings abroad.

We only plan five of these weddings a year. Lisa will work with you every step of your planning journey with a mix of SKYPE and face to face meetings in our beautiful Chester office.

Included in this service are

Escorted viewing trips to your destination to see the venue before you book. (not including flights and hotel which are payable separately and subject to prices at the time of travel)

Lisa's attendance at your wedding for 3 days, the 2 days leading up to the wedding and the wedding day itself.

Budgets for this service typically start at £50k for 50 people

The Consultation

If you prefer to chat face to face, then join us for a coffee (or tea) to discuss your plans. This is better arranged once you have a venue or at least a destination decided. This means we can really get into the detail of the day and have plenty of time to discuss ideas.

There is a small investment of £75 for this which is refunded off the cost of your wedding when you book. The consultations last around 90 mins to 2 hours and is with one of our wedding experts.
