The first plastic lacrosse head was developed by the company, STX, in August of 1970 (Comlax). This would revolutionize the way lacrosse is played forever. The plastic head is significantly lighter and more maneuverable than the one piece wooden stick. The plastic head is easier to string and fix in case there are any issue with strings breaking.

The plastic lacrosse head creates many new advantages when it came to stringing. The wooden lacrosse head shape varied from stick to stick, so the length of two heads could be very different. Therefore, the mesh was made out of traditional strings which was essentially strips of leather strung vertically and horizontally to keep the ball in the pocket.

Along with the plastic head comes a different mesh. The plastic head uses strings and mesh players had not really seen before. The mesh is connected to the head by nylon strings that are strong and do not break. This mesh makes it easier to string if anything breaks, it also, allows for a more customized pocket for the player.

Heads and mesh have both come along way since 1970, and they will continue to improve into the future. For example, in the past mesh and heads were affected drastically by any moisture whether it was snow, water, or dew that is on the grass. Today, heads and mesh are not really affected by moisture, so the pockets do not bag out causing bad throws and even worse shots.

People are skeptical on how it takes away the customization of the game in the way heads are strung. As technology progresses the game becomes more advanced .
