MAC News Term 3 wEEK 4

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to all of the students and families in our College community, and a very warm welcome to the families who have joined our College for the first time in Term 3.

Term 3 is set to be a very busy term. This is particularly true for our Year 12 students who are heading into their last term of formal schooling. This time can be quite hectic, filled with the deadlines for assignments, exams and a whole host of other things they need to get done. As a College community, let's commit to praying for our Year 12 students in the coming weeks, that they will be strengthened and sustained by God and that they will be healthy and able to exercise wisdom in their time management.

By now, most of our families have returned their re-enrollment forms for next year. There is currently a strong demand for places for 2020 and we have waiting lists in place for many of our years, a few vacancies left for upper Primary and vacancies for some of our Secondary years. If you know anyone who is looking to enrol for 2020, can you please encourage them to be prompt in their application.

Thank you also to all the staff and College families who joined in to make Open Day such a success. We raised over $3500 for the College due to the over and above efforts of our wonderful College community. The funds raised will go towards various camps and our Cambodia mission trip.

This term we also see our Year 5/6 Students off to Canberra for camp, our Year 12 Final Chapel and Activity Day, Multicultural Night and Alphabet Day. We also celebrate Book Week, Science Week and hold our annual Book Character Parade, not to mention the numerous other Sporting Carnivals, excursions, incursions and activities that take place here at the College on a weekly basis.

There is certainly never a dull moment for our students here at MAC, so please be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page and read the Newsletter to stay up to date with all the events in Term 3.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you have all had a fantastic holiday break with your families! It is going to be a great term filled with many more Primary events to take us through to the end of term.

Here is a Bible Verse for us all this week:

“Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32

Primary Sport

Starting in Week 2 our students will be commencing their Primary Sport Days. The main purpose of Sport during this term is to develop our students' skill and fitness levels through Dance and Skipping. Please ensure that your child comes to school on their Sport Day in full sport uniform, including their hat and water bottle. If your child is unable to participate for any reason, please contact the College or alternatively, send a letter outlining the reason why.

Prep-Year 2 Sport day is on Friday

Year 3-6 Sport on Thursday

Grandparents Day

At Macarthur Adventist College we value our Grandparents! Whether they go by the name of Grandma and Grandpa, Nana and Papa, Omar and Opar — or something different, there's no question that grandparents play a huge role in the life of their grandchildren. We are therefore delighted to invite all of our grandparents to our very first annual 'Grandparents Day' which will take place on Wednesday 14th August from 8:30am to 10:45am. Grandparents Day is a wonderful opportunity for children to spend time with their Grandparents in their school environment and share with them some of the great things they are doing here at the College. We will begin the day with classroom visits, including worship and craft activities followed by Primary Chapel and morning tea in the hall. We are looking forward to this special event, and hope it will be an exciting day for both young and old.

Book Week, Book Fair & Book Parade!

This year National Book Week is from the 17th — 23rd of August! Our Primary school students can start organising a costume for the Book Character Parade! Parents, families and friends are welcome to attend the Book Parade on Friday 23rd August at 9:00am in the hall. Parents are most welcome to come in costume as the Home and School Association have organised a special Parent’s Award.

To continue our celebration of books, please prepare some pocket money to purchase a book from the Book Fair! This will be running from the Library in early September, from Thursday 5th September through to the 10th September. Please plan to come in during this time and purchase a lovely book to take home!

Prep— Year 1 Athletics Fun Dav & Father's Day Breakfast!

This year our Athletics Fun Day will be run on Friday 30th August. We are looking forward to a wonderful day of sporting activities, some friendly competition and encouraging all students to have a go! As always, we would love parents to come along and support our students at this annual event!

PLUS! As a Father's Day treat, we welcome all the Dads. Uncles, Grandpas and male role models to our school for a Father's Day Breakfast! Hang around for the Athletics Carnival and join in on a tug of war not to be missed!

Premiers Reading Challenge

The PRC is wrapping up for the year with all students needing their books entered on the website by the 30th August. That is very soon, so encourage those around you who are almost done to finish the challenge strong!

Wests Tigers Gala Day

Our Stage 3 students have been very busy training each Wednesday in Rugby League this year. All of this practice and hard work became evident when last Term the boys were able to win the Independent and Catholic Schools West Tigers Gala. From here our school was invited to compete at the next level last Wednesday.

The level of competition was extremely competitive and our team took some time to adapt, however showed the fight and enthusiasm that they have displayed all year in each game including coming back from 22 points down at half time to win their final game and come second in their pool.

The 16 boys who competed in the Gala Day represented everything that our college is about and made our school extremely proud. The boys had a mix of experience and ages this year, however they truly came together as a team, so much so that our bus driver on the day was treated to half an hour of student led karaoke on the trip back to school.

A big thanks also needs to go out to Mr Aneti Levy for helping out on the day.

Primary Zone Athletics Carnival

On Monday 5th August, 30 primary students went to compete against other Christian schools from the South Met area. The Year 3-6 that represented our school did an amazing job in each of their athletic events. They had fun, worked hard and met some new students from other schools. We are very proud of our Primary students.

Secondary News & Reminders

Welcome back for Term 3. I hope that each of our students was able to enjoy a refreshing and relaxing holiday spent with family and friends and is back at school today and ready for a great term.

As we enter the second half of our school year, there are many events planned this term which will allow our students to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. These types of activities, whether included in the core curriculum or in addition to it, provide our students with the ability to become well rounded individuals.

It is wonderful that at each school extra-curricular event I have attended this year, the parent support and attendance has been strong and very positive. I encourage all our community members to come along and support our students at the many events planned for this term. Your active involvement in our College demonstrates a wonderful commitment to the college-parent partnership and sends your child a positive message that school and education is extremely important.

I thank you for entrusting your children to our College and wish you the best for another wonderful term.

Chaplaincy News

Primary SWAT Week

Last week the Primary School had a program we call "SWAT" (Spiritual Weapons and Tactics). Our theme was- Kingdom Rock and we had the privilege of having guest speaker Pr Daron Pratt share with us for the week. Students had fun singing, playing games and learning about how to stand strong for God. A highlight for both students and teachers has been Pr Daron's sense of humor, expressive storytelling and skill with making balloon animals. Thanks Pr Daron!
