Friends and Family,
Happy New Year! We know it's been a while since you've heard directly from us. Hopefully you have been able to keep up with us through our monthly ministry updates, as well as through our social media pages and website. If you don't get our monthly ministry updates emailed directly to you, please let us know as we would love to add you to the mailing list!
We can't believe that it's already the end of January and February is around the corner. We have officially been calling South Africa home for two years now and we are loving every second of it. In the past year the ministry has grown and so has our family! We would love for you to take a few minutes and check out everything that has been happening in our lives!
The Birth of Brinley Kaye
There's no doubt about it. The best part of 2016 was welcoming our beautiful daughter, Brinley Kaye Jones, into the world on December 3, 2016. From the moment we held her we were all in love! She is now 8 weeks old and doing great! David and Maddison are obsessed with their little sister. Maddison holds her every chance she gets and David is the king of soothing his little sister. Rebecca is blessed to be on maternity leave with Brinley till the first of March. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers as we continue adjust to being a family of 5!
We Had Family Visit!
One of the hardest parts of being an international missionary is being away from family. This year we were blessed to have a lot of Josiah's family visit! They were able to see the ministry first hand and do some of the best tourist things around!
We Hosted Interns!
Wow! Talk about a learning experience! Last year Josiah and I felt like the Lord was asking us to step forward in faith and host interns to assist with the launch of Abba's Pride's internship program "Serve South Africa". Talk about a learning experience! For the last year (other than a few weeks here and there) we have been hosting interns that have given up their time and life in the States to serve alongside of our team. It's been exhausting but it's been a blast! However, with the addition of our newest little one, we feel as if our time of hosting interns is coming to an end and will no longer be hosting long term interns after this March.
We Booked Tickets!
To where you ask? To the U.S.A! That's right. This March we will be returning back to the States for 10 weeks. We are so excited as Lonnie and Debbie (Rebecca's parents) are also traveling home during this time. It will be the first time Rebecca's entire family will be together in almost 5 years! As much as we would love to see each one of you, we feel as if we need to take as much time as possible to rest and recoup before returning back to South Africa in May. Because of this, we will not to be able to visit all of you, though we wish we could! We will spend most of our time in PA with Josiah's family and in VA with Rebecca's family. If you are around either of those areas we would love to connect with you! Oh, and of course we will be in town for this year's Community Bible Church Global Reaching Out Conference!
Our Jobs Grew in the Ministry!
Previously my jobs were to help with the after school programs at our partnering churches, assisting Lonnie with team travel and assisting Debbie with finances. Now, I have added on the responsibility of male intern coordinator! I will not be alone in this responsibility as we have Anna Goldsmith joining us in June to be the female intern coordinator. I am excited about the opportunity to help guide the learning experience that is the Serve South Africa internship program. Let me know if you or someone you know may be interested (firstname.lastname@example.org)!
While pregnancy taught me many things, it really challenged me to see the best in every situation. As the winter season came, I found myself constantly being sick. Sweet Brinley and I just couldn't keep up with the demands of going out to the centers every day during cold and flu season. My doctor encouraged me to stay in the city and limit being out as much as possible. This was really hard for me, but the Lord used it to show me other parts of the ministry that I really enjoy. I've taken the roll of overseeing the social media, website and everything in between for the ministry and am loving it! I'm learning as I go and have a few friends that are probably sick of me asking for help, but it is something I am truly enjoying doing! While I am on maternity leave, I am continuing to use some of my down time to strengthen my Adobe and Wordpress skills. Don't worry, I am still VERY eager to get back in the classroom with our teachers! That is something I will always love to do!
