OJ Simpson Court Case

Simpson was accused of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend and restaurant waiter, Ron Goldman. Simpson went through a long trial and eventually was found not guilty. One of the "dramatic points" of the trial was when the gloves used in the murders did not fit, as Simpson struggled to get them on.

Rwanda Genocide

The genocide was between two major ethnic groups is Rwanda: the Hutu's and Tutsi's. The Hutu's conceived the genocide, planning to kill the minority Tutsi population. The genocide lasted over 100 days and killed over 800,000 people, primarily Tutsi's. To kill, they used crusade instruments, machetes, and rape, which they used the deliberate use of people with HIV/AIDS to carry out the sexual assaults.

Sexual Accusations Against Bill Clinton

Paula Corbin Jones filed a sexual harassment suit against Bill Clinton. Jones claimed that Bill Clinton sent someone to invite her to a room at the Excelsior Hotel, where he exposed himself to her and asked her to perform oral sex on him. Clinton's lawyers appealed for either the postponement or dismissal of the lawsuit because they feared it would hurt Clinton during the election. Jones's lawyers went digging through Clinton's past to find every rumor made about him to investigate, and in the midst, the name Monica Lewinsky came to light. Monica was an intern at the White House and allegedly had sexual relations with Bill Clinton. Monica would tell a friend about it over the phone, not knowing the friend was recording the calls where she had discussed her affair with Clinton. After 4 1/2 years of the legal warfare, Clinton agreed to pay Jones $850,000 to drop the lawsuit in a four-page deal which he admitted no wrongdoing and offered no apology.

Forrest Gump

The Forrest Gump movie came out in 1994 and was very popular due to the historical events it showed, such as the assassinations of both John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, the assassination attempt on George Wallace, the struggles over Civil Rights, and the war in Vietnam. It was also very popular because of the storyline itself by showing that a kid in leg braces who was always made fun of as a child can accomplish and do all the things that Forrest ended up doing in his lifetime.

The television show Friends also came out in the year 1994 and was simply about six friends who live in New York City and hangout between their apartments and a coffee shop near Central Park. What made this show so popular was that it had three story lines per episode instead of two, like all of the other sitcoms out during this time. It was also popular because of the entertaining dialogue and wordplay, and the fact that it followed the character development and relationships between the group that went on throughout all ten seasons.
