Principal's Update
The end of term is finally here and although we have experienced another year of uncertainty the students and staff at CRA have demonstrated our CRA values on a daily basis.
We are very proud of all they have achieved during this challenging time and are looking forward to a more ‘normal’ academic year from September, but not before we have all had a rest and an opportunity to recharge before the start of term.
We have a number of staff leaving us today. Three are temporary staff who joined us to support due to staff illness and the effects of COVID. We say goodbye to Mr Garner, Mr Gates and Mrs Morris. Although this was a temporary appointment for them all these staff have really demonstrated a commitment to the children of Charles Read Academy and we thank them for it.
From our permanent staff we are sorry to be saying goodbye to Mr Drumm, Mrs Rees, Mrs Wade, Miss Dickson, Mrs Butcher and Mr Marshall-Andrews.
All these staff members, in different ways, have gone above and beyond to ensure our students have had opportunities, have been supported emotionally, have developed their self-esteem, have had support in the classroom and excellent teaching. We wish all the staff who are leaving the very best for the future and hope they will all stay in touch.

Return to school - September 2021
The return to school in September will be staggered.
- New year 7s and Year 11s will return on Thursday 2nd.
- Years 8, 9, and 10 return on Friday 3rd.
We would still recommend that students wear a face covering in communal spaces, but will not be doing so in classrooms.
Lateral Flow Testing - September 2021
Return to school testing
The Department of Education has advised that all secondary students will be required to perform two in school lateral flow tests on return to school in September. Accordingly we are planning our test centre and resources in advance.
We will be sending out communications over the summer holidays in regard to this as and when the government makes any changes.
We will use previously provided consent and contact details forms for the uploading of test results, however if you need to change your consent details or haven't completed a consent form before please do so by following the link below:
It is essential that we have your consent / denial so we are not chasing you via calls and messages when the students return.
Testing over the summer
Students and staff are not required to test over the summer holiday, unless they attending the school building. If you do conduct tests please continue recording them in the following locations NHS and also CRA.
If you require further kits, students can collect these from reception.
Did you know that parents and support bubbles of school children, as well as anyone who has to leave home to go to work, can now get rapid Covid-19 tests twice a week. Order yours now here.

House News
Aqua complete the Double and are crowned 2021 Sports Day and House Champions
It has been a very successful week for Aqua house who on Friday 16th July were crowned Sports Day champions, clinching the title by just 1 point to Terra in 2nd place. Sports Day saw Aqua, Terra and Caeli go head to head in 10 events for the chance to win the lion share of the 500 house points on offer.
A fantastic effort from all students and staff who represented their house – well done.
Following Sports Day victory Aqua secured the House Championship by 8 points to Terra in 2nd and Caeli in 3rd place.
It was a thrilling race right to the end of the year, with all 3 house points in top spot at some point throughout the year.
Aqua celebrate as House Champions with fun filled rewards afternoon
Over 80 students and staff from Aqua house took part in the House rewards afternoon yesterday, Tuesday 20th July to celebrate victory as 2021 House Champions.
Aqua were provided with a fun filled afternoon of inflatable activities, Burger or Hot Dog and Chips followed by an ice cream.
Students had a fantastic afternoon and are already looking forward to retaining the House Championship next year.

Instrumental and Voice Lessons
At Charles Read Academy we offer access to the expertise of Lincolnshire Music Service instrumental/vocal teachers during the school day. The lessons are available face-to-face 1-1 and we are pleased to announce that shared lessons are also now available from September.
Having a shared lesson can offer reduced costs to parents, an increased length of lesson and are often preferred by some students so they don't feel 'on their own'. Shared lessons are a preference for some, while 1-1 is a preference for others.
