Abstract: Childhood obesity has been on the rise in America, especially in Ventura County where over one-third of children and adolescents are overweight or obese. Ventura County’s population consists of 40% Latinx descent who are more at risk of suffering from obesity-related complications, such as diabetes and hyperlipidemia. The development of obesity has familial ties that stem from inactivity, poor diet, and genetic disposition. In order to mitigate the familial causes of obesity, Las Islas Clinic launched the Healthy Kids Program which joins parents and children in the collaborative effort of changing poor eating behaviors and adopting healthier lifestyles. We examine whether the Healthy Kids Program had an impact on patients' health by analyzing their BMI and Hgb A1c.
