Rosa Parks, an african american women who was a member of the NAACP(National Association for the Advancement of colored People) refused to surrender her bus seat to a white passenger in Montgomery, Alabama. When Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat, local African-American leaders began a boycott of the city's public buses. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was the leader of the boycott, the boycott lasted for as long as 13 months.

Lester Maddox ,A populist Democrat, Maddox came to prominence as a staunch segregationist, when he refused to serve black customers in his Atlanta restaurant, in defiance of the Civil Rights Act.

Martian Luther King Jr, was an American Baptist minster and activist who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. He is best know for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience on his Christian beliefs.
